Newly opened Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney HSR link required special treatment. Unfortuneatly electric traction was out of question due to prohibitive maintenence. Bombardier offered an alternative - ethanol-coal gel turbine locomotive in lieu of long forgotten JetTrain experiment.

This little locomotive, long derivative of USA based Sunset californian HSR is capable of 300km/h, has 6000 hp and 196 kN of tractive effort. Avalible 2035

Country of origin: Austarlia
Manufacturer: Bombardier

Nice, although there's not much desert between Canberra and Sydney. ;)

Canberra to Sydney? How on earth....
I wish I had a train like that to catch... it'd stop me from paying the current petrol prices...

Yay, finally got to play this. Random blather follows ...

The steamers are great. Is the "Red Devil" the Wardale 'mod' that South African train engineers nicknamed "Spooky"?

Those Indian electrics are simply stunning, both in looks and utility.

I'm less enamoured of a couple of the diesels so far from a graphical point of view, compared with the rest. Without real-life company livery (or versions thereof) and other detailing a few of the diesels look less distingushed, kind-of generalised "mobile blocks" rather than interesting engines. In a few cases I'd love to see more clearly defined cabs/windows/side-panelling/roof-vents, etc. I guess some of the USSet's diesels have spoiled me in this regard, but it would be lovely to have a bit more detail in a few diesel locos: the DL Class for example.

Like how you have separated out the freight wagons (and their cargo refits) by colour - very clear but not too garish. Passenger wagons are good too, although the Express cars (mail+refits) look a little like oddly "different" passenger wagons that semi-goods cars. Are these designs based on anything in particular?

Sounds are good.

I'm having fun. Looking forward to future additions. :D

No, that was a 19D, the Red Devil is a Class 26.

Ah right, I recall now reading somewhere there were two Wardale experiements that were very successful in South Africa.

Regarding the diesels, I think I've been overcritical. Playing around some more it seems the choice of CC does make a big difference in how much detail comes through. Some colours really obscure the fine detail work in the diesels, particularly their cabs, so picking the right CC is important. The DL Class does look surprisingly bland compared to the rest though, although for all I know it is a perfectly accurate rendering. ;)

EDIT: Found a minor alignment problem with the three longer/windowed Express Cars, only in the two views shown:

HaroldV:

You're kinda/sorta right. Some locos need a little dismbiguation. Others need to be added or tweaked.

I slowly brew release 2.0 which will tweak running costs (to make them more managable), add a few locos and tweak some data. To that some of the current locos are going to get 2CC support.

BTW - In OTTD 4.8.0 RC1 is a map called Africa & South East. I strongly reccomend playing it with this set. :)

If only trunk OTTD supported real acceleration model :(
