[WIP]Loco Obj Diposit/Need web-designer/artist

Post by Daan Timmer »

I am not sure how often steve's loco depot is used.
Seeing the last added mod is dating back from 2005.

I am not sure why it is not used.

I do know is that I am practicing my PHP skills atm. And building a similar website like steve's.

I am not sure if it is possible to update the stuff on steve's site. I do know that the topic here on the forum is only able to be updated by 1 person. Which can cause A LOT of delays.

______________________________________
Some background info hence I am doing this site.
I just found out some funny/nice/useful stuff for PHP. (More Object Orientated like Java).
Along with that I am trying to make my own framework to make the process of creating websites easier. To make more general *modules and objects* which I then can use in any site. And only have to change the template of the site.
Seeing I don't have any website to work on atm I tought about trying to make it a bit of some kind of storage website. Where users can login, those users can upload, manage, remove the items stored by themself. And can set various of security measures. Like peoples having to have an active acc. before being able to DL their stuff.
But also to have the *author* have the option to set a copyright, and add a link instead of a file.

Ohwell. I hope to hear some responses :)

for those who are interested in following the progress of the site.
http://daantimmer.mine.nu/locomotion/ there it is. I DON'T DO GRAPHICS!!!! I can do coding, but I am t3h suck @ graphics!

That is the one here on the forum... bit out-dated too.

You didn't said that, Daantje means that the message/mod info has been adapted on that date on Steve's website.

Yeah, ok, but from wich topic? That topic with all the mods will be updates only when people are asking to put them there. I cant follow all of the stuff.

figures ;)

However, before I continue, I do have to say. It is a nice and good thing from you to do!
However, seeing it from my point of view, wouldend it be easier if they could do it themselfs? I mean, *not having to PM some person and then wait for him to update?*

I really am not trying to offend you in anyway! Nor do I doubt your effort that you want to put /are putting, in keeping that topic up to date.

Altough I also do want some answers <or some response> from current *developers*, like Plastikman,Seelenquell,BlenderUser,Barry Keats, etc. (sorry if I did not mention you ;))

I been working on this quite some time tbh. It was on a hold for like 2 months already. Freaking school was consuming TOO much time.... :(

I placed this poll/topic mainly because I saw yours :) that is why my poll is asking for a/an other local deposit ;)

ok - time to throw my thruppence into this cake...

AMI website is hosting the BR and NI Set from AMITrains and additionally, will hopefully offer the Amtrack pack space and pages detailing information for the work from Plastikman.

It's not intended to replace the forums - the forums work great for a meeting point and discussion as well as to show off work done. It's merely a handy catalogue and saves Owen some pennies each month as it absorbs (at the moment) 4GB of the bandwidth...

I find that the Sticky'd subject at the top of this forum great as an initial database, as its one click away from the relevant topics... I worry that should more repositories open besides 'offical project sites' such as LocoTrains for the LT Pack, the NL site etc, work that has become out of date through updates etc would be continued to be distributed. This is one of the reasons why AMI Trains hosts all from it's own website.

There is never going to be an ideal solution to this on-going discussion... one thing is certain though, developers like Scrat, Illegal Alien and AMI will want to ensure that the quality work that has been developed continues to enjoy the great reputation built through the hard work. This is why the (polite) objection to building new repositories will continue to stand.

All the best,
Andel

I think that would be become, a bit messy, because they wont be in a "category" or something, but just is loads of posts.

All the best,
I do get your point as to the updating stuff.
But ofcourse there will be an option to only link to a site.
Or, as it is done with TTD-patch. They make a *.zip named *latestw.zip* for every version.
So you can link on the site to <yourhost>/latest.***

as an example :)
