Here's a new version of my Switzerland Scenario. I've added some towns and villages. There still aren't as many villages as I want in the alps, but I'm bored with it for today.

and as you will probably notice, I have yet to place a single town outside of switzerland...

Yes i know its small but if i would make the map bigger the desert would be very big. I think i will start on a bigger map soon but making a scenario takes up a lot of time.
Maybye try with heightmaps? You'd just modify the .png file with your graphic application and OTTD would generate the terrain on it.

LordOfThePigs: the easter and western parts of the map are really empty. Take your time putting towns and industries :)

Scenario authors can put signs with their names/nicks on their maps

I'm sorry I told some of you to remove the copyright signs - the discussion on this took place a moment ago.
It'd be good if the copyright signs were placed in the northmost corner.

Please fix the last issues, set the correct viewport position and zoom and attach the final versions in this thread.
Please name the file using the final scenario name and proper capital letters. No unneed numbers please.
Example: Grassy Island.scn for the Grassy Island scenario

LordOfThePigs, that is an awesome start! May i suggest though that along the Glacier Express line, some towns such as Andermatt, Goeschenen, Reichenau, Llanz etc, that area of the map is rather blank. But i must sya that awesome work so far!

I know, I haven't placed towns on this part of the alps yet. But it will come.

Great richk67 :) I've noticed some very-small issues (like missing '1st caratact' sign or two river blocks on Canonyero map, but it's okay as it is and you don't need to bother changing

LordOfThePigs, Are you going to modify the flatlands at the west in the future? It is really too flat. And trees - when zoomed out, I can see the pattern - tree species are planted in a diagonal north-north-east lines.
Anyway, I really like the way trees are planted. Good work on this scenario :)

The tree pattern is the "natural" way that they grow in OTTD after many many iterations. I had the same problem on the Africa map that it had taken so long to build that some random tree plants had grown into forests that had over time gained this linear weirdness.

Funny you say that, because the geographical data has been extracted from 49 1x1 degree tiles of satelite height data (I don't remember which set of data though), and then stripped down to OTTD levels each (each level represents approximately 300 vertical meters).

As for the trees, I didn't plant them.... OTTD planted it alone, while in fast forward mode...

LordOfThePigs, do you have a program called Microsoft Autoroute by any chance, i find it helps quite a lot when placing towns etc in maps.

nope, I use map.search.ch. It's free and it does pretty much everything I need. It's one of the ancestors of google earth.

It's a pleasure to see this map :)
Are you really sure this is the position you want players to start over?
It doesn't really matter, but if you change anything, also please move the signs to the northmost part of the map. But don't bother doing it if nothing else is to do

I just thought it was a nicer place to start rather than in the middle of some ocean somewhere

Of course this is better place. Did I said it was wrong? If I seemed to tell that it's wrong, sorry then.
But the initial position is not the sign position
