Question: How can I change the catchment area of airports?

Post by Kyla »

Heya

I'm still kinda new at modding stuff in locomotion and still learning.

The title says it all, a friend of mine came up with the idea to make the range of the airports a little bigger. I was trying to find the right spot in the .xml-file but so far without any luck. I hope anyone of you could help me out.

Catchment areas aren't in the dat's , but in in the exe's.

Is it possible to mod the airport graphic?

So instead of its footprint on the land being a big square its instead a big square with outlying small squares?

Would those outlying squares expand the catchment area?

When playing with airports I expand their catchment area by adding bus/tram/platforms around the airport.

You can however put pieces of railway platforms around it, to make the area bigger.

Err; Just keep in mind, 80 tile's MAX, so if an airport takes up 60 tiles, you can only extend it by another 20. (This stops you from having two airports next to each other, serving as two in's/out's.)

An airport counts as one towards the 80 piece limit. No matter which type of airport it is.

Same for ports. Sea Ports are size 2x2 but count as 1 towards 80 piece limit.

Does make sense, and I also increase the catchment area like that but I think it would be a lot easier just to be able to plant an airport and no having to add all those buss stops all over town. that's the whole point.
