VEP possible WIP

Post by intercity125 »

I want to make a VEP to run on DC third rail - like the 2-EPB.

As it is a unit based on the MKI design, i thought perhaps it wont be that difficult.

Now, when i am trying to draw the front of the train, what program would be best to use?
I understand that this has to be drawn from many different angles as i expected, but is there any quick solution to this?
I would like to make it so that it has 4 coaches to it. I assume i have to have 2 modified mkI coaches with driving cabs, and the usual two mkI coaches in between.

Can anyone offer any advice on this? I just really need to know the best way to draw the cab ends first - will it take a drawing for every single angle, or is there a shortcut?

Basically,i am trying to do this in the same way i imagine pikkabird made his DBSO, the brilliant BRILLIANT DBSO.

Picture of the real unit is attached below.

Thanks!

Nope handmade drawing; or otherwise a 3D program :)

Bugger me thats going to be tough, how accurate does each pic have to be to the next one?
What is the easiest and best program to use to draw it freehand also?

Im thinking of copying the mkI body, copying the 2-EPB cab, and then modifying thereafter from that as they are not hugely unalike.

136 images. So i think thats it doesnt need to be that accurate; but i thinks thats gonna look odd then.

I use Phosotshop, but i think very photoediting/whatever program could do this; just watch out with the pallete stuff)

I think thats you can make that as a batch progress (Copy paste 1 part of the vehicle on the other; but i think handdrawn stuff should be the best way. (I need to hand edit the TGV`s. Each TGV has 3 parts so that makes 3x 136 x 4 TGV`s of sprites i need to handmade modified (Some things sticking out after resizing)

Ahhh, i dare say Paint isnt up to the job

Is there a free download of photoshop available anywhere that you know of? Something almost as good would do.

I think i will copy 2-EPB and then modify the front of that, trying to be as exact as i can possibly be. Hopefully it'll turn out ok, and in standard company colours like the mkI currently is.

PS - How unrealistic do you think this is?

In fact, does anyone have sprites for VEP maybe i can tamper with?? That may be a possibility.

Perhaps a 4-CIG or 4-CEP would be easier to do. It coaches are much closer to the original mark 1 design then the 4-VEP's.

I will look into that actually, the closest the better i suppose, but in any case none look completely different to the mkI coach

there is only one slight difference, is that one of the VEP coaches has a guards compartment, that would be one of the centre two. I think CIG's and BIG's are the same, not sure on CEP's or BEP's.
I will try to rustle up a picture for ya if that helps.

Good luck with the development however, i hope it goes well.

here is the pictures of the guards compartment on the 4-CEP and 4-CIG, the 4-VEP has an identical layout of the Guards Compartment on the bodyside to the CIG so i haven't included that.

The CEP picture isn't all that great, but the guards compartment is at the beginning of the second carriage and just seems to be the standard double luggage doors.

On the CIG the double doors are in evidence, and the single door next to that (Nearer the Camera) with the large grab rails is the actual guards door, it is not used in passenger service and opens inwards.

I am sorry if you have already thought of these and i am stepping on your toes, but i am honestly just trying to help ya.

IMHO - they're all cold and horrible... try travelling in the Guards Van in a wheelchair in the winter....

Not helpful I know but had to vent it ;) ....

slam-door stock is mostly gone nowadays, i haven't seen a 'slammer' for a while.
But don't quote me.

I suppose it's good that they've stopped now. But I think it might have stopped rather sooner if the company executives had been travelling that way - maybe they should try it!

I think its a crying shame that the majority of them have gone.

The Leamington Pier branch uses slammers exclusively, so if you want to see them try there - i think they have been modified for disabled access also, so you might want to have a go andel!

As far as a cold guards van goes, when a member of staff i know works on the trains i take at 'One', i tend to hang about in the guards carriage there, nice and noisey and breezy!
