This is ridiculous! It often happens that I have a train line somewhere and then the competitor comes in and makes his own line transporting the same stuff from the same place to the same place. In these cases the competitor ALWAYS wins. He practically gets all the stuff at his station and my trains don't get anything. Also the AI seems to get way better transport ratings. Sometimes even 100%! My record must be 80-something...
So how do I get a good rating at my stations? I might have many trains there at once and the competitor has one train and gets 100%. What's the thing that counts? Frequency of visits to the station, size of trains on the station, number of trains on the station or what???
How to get good transport ratings?
I ain't exactly a Guru on this but I think I can explain it adquetly well(having built by the computer's lines to drive him out of buisness.. haven't quite made it yet.. but I was making as much if not more money).
What you want to do is have at least one more train running then they have on the track(for buses and trains I am unsure). however preferbly you wan't enough trains that there will be a full station of small(I never use more then 3 unless the distance is enourmous and I have space issues) loading trains) This way you are slightly outdoeing it's production per month. Now what this does is raise your rating. As an added bonus you can use the advertising campaigns.. though I don't know much about them. And of course if you have money to blow you can buy exlcusive transport rights.. just make sure during that time that you get your station ratings high as posible.
Additional tips are to try and keep your train route as short as possible(so they get their faster) and as smooth as possible. This is all about getting A LOT of cargo delievered as fast as possible.

Another tip is the build a statue in the host town - a statue of the owner of the company somehow increases ratings
