Urban ReNewal graphics

Post by PedroXavi »

I've got a question that as been bothering me for a while. I have much of time, contact with new enhanced graphic alteration to OpenTTDs current graphic set and I whould like to alter them. Question is.. how?

They usually come in EXE files, other in GRF format files.

I download them, and.. I can just stear at them, not knowing what I should do with them, I've download a set of different graphic files from http://users2.tt-forums.net/ttdur/ttdur.htm, and I don't know what to do with them.

P.S. Every time a new TTDPatch comes out, with new additions, can I use it (and how)? Or must I wait for a new version of OpenTTD to be launched with TTDPatch's additions?

Thank you for your time, and sorry for my ignorence :?:

well TTD patch is developing their format NewGRF. whic is not fully supported by OTTD currently (we are always playing catchup with them)

and OTTD is now developing its new GFX format. 32 bits per pixel. which the Patch will never be able to use (current words from the main coder).

there is info about what fetures of NewGRF are working already and what is not working.

there is also info on how to get them working. (i have never tried myself) and it involves manually listing the GRF sets you have AFAIK,

To clear this up really quickly: You have the basegame Transport Tycoon Deluxe. There are two (incompatible) enhancements to TTD; TTDPatch and OpenTTD.

You probably already know TTDPatch. Very shortly for its newgrf support look at: http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php ... stallation

Support in OpenTTD is similar; look at http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=9424

There are two types of grf files. One is .grf (which is usually additional graphics) the other is .exe. Exe files are just replacement graphics; for example changing the looks of an airport to something different. It does this by changing the main graphics file and CANNOT be undone, so make sure you make a backup first.

There is? Where? /me wants!

PedroXavi: You move the executables to your data/ directory and run them. You move the GRF files to your data/ directory and add their name to the end of openttd.cfg, after the [newgrf] line. If that line doesn't exist, just add it. (EDIT: too slow; DV beat me too it.)

You can use the new version of TTDPatch just as soon as it comes out, but only if you have a copy of TTD installed. See here for more info. TTDPatch and OTTD are two completely different programs; if you want Patch features in Open, or vice versa, you'll just have to wait. (Or code them yourself.)
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.
