TTWorld...

Post by Eddie Bernard »

...is back and is looking smarter than ever, IMHO ;-)

I haven't actually made any changes content wise as I haven't had enough
time. I have been working on this update flat out from Friday night, to now,
Sunday night. It sure has kept me busy. The main changes are in the frame.
It's gone!!! I decided to completely eradicate the frame because to be
honest, to me seemed very unsightly and ugly. It was also a hell of a job
trying to squash in all those buttons. The removal of the frame has led to a
complete redesign as far as the navbar is concerned. All the buttons are now
a crisp clean looking green. The buttons, according to one observer (Paul
:-) have been described as,

"cool! i like it"

With the elimination of the frame has meant a lot of tables have been used
instead. These I think have made the site look a lot easier, and the layout
is better. The major font has changed, it is now Tahoma, rather than Times
New Roman.

So if you will AGMTT Netizens, take a trip to http://www.ttworld.cjb.net and
see what you think. Remember if you have anything to say about the site,
please do not hesitate to get in touch with me, and I will reply pretty
soon.

Thanks very much,

Eddie

Muchas gracias senor! ;-)
Some things that might be improved:
- no underlining of text; this should be reserved for links. It makes it
a bit confusing if you can't immediately identify a link
I'll see what I can do for next update.
- automatic playing of the midi file; I don't like it but we've been
through this before
Whoops! I'll do that now. I didn't notice this. Thanks for telling me.

Hmm...as far as I can see, it says...

<embed width="247" height="48" src="ttdshort.mid" autostart=false>

...which is correct. It doesn't autoplay for me. Where is the problem?

Ooops... I've reinstalled an older version of Quicktime and apparently
it doesn't honour the autostart flag. So it's not your fault :)
Sorry about that.

Very nice for the most part! :-)

If you will allow me one tiny criticism, however...

I'm not too fond of your navbar - couldn't you just use a
normal table, rather than using all those JPG's? After all,
some of use only have 56 Kb/s access! Your navbar weighs in
at around a rather hefty 350 KB in total...

Also, the Patches link didn't seem to be working, but that
might just be a teething problem...

Sorry for sounding so miserably negative! Apart from that,
very nice work!

Right you are. *****BUT*****, and I cannot stress this one enough; but you
download that once. That is because it goes into the Temporary Internet
Files folder. Ahhh....and then on the next page you need one new button. And
then that's it.
The old navbar, the ugly red thing was *very* small, just 3kb. That was a
PNG, and was all the images squashed into one.
I think the navbar looks good, and so does everyone else. The slow time as I
have mentioned should only happen once.
Also, the Patches link didn't seem to be working, but that

Teething problems? TTWorld has been going since October I'll have you know
;-)

I haven't had any problems. I've validated all the links, they work fine.
The page is there. Maybe the server was just being fussy. It a Win NT server
you see. Despite it being of Microsoft origin, its speed compared to a Unix
one, which has been the case for the .itgo. site and the .the-whale. site,
is a lot faster.
Sorry for sounding so miserably negative! Apart from that,
very nice work!
Don't worry. I get at least one of these every week ;-)

Yes that's OK, but I -and many others, I suppose- flush the IE cache (ooer)
quite regularly and would loose those files.
I will be fine as I have the show pics option permanetly off to cater for
X-Stream's (usual) slowness and only d/l stuff I want to see.

That's true for IE users at least. But I was thinking that
you could use the same JPG button image for all the buttons.
By using a table, you could use the same image as the
background image for each cell and then add the appropriate
text. That way, you get to keep the fetching green buttons,
cut down on the KB's and stop me complaining! ;-)
Also, the Patches link didn't seem to be working, but that

You an X-Stream user as well?
The network groans under the immense weight of calls to it. It's tough to
get on, but when I get on, I can get about 3Kb bandwidth. Impressive for an

Hmmm...
Erm....

As I've mentioned a few times, the Win NT server that the site runs on can
be very temperamental. Try again, there should be no problems as far as I
can tell.

http://www.ttworld.ic24.net

The second should only be used if the very slow CJB redirector doesn't
respond.

Is there anyway to read this NG on X-stream? I'm not going to use Deja.
Ever.

12 times, but I can be on that 0800 line for literally *hours*.

Small price to pay for X-stream, £0.00 a month.

I was considering using BT i. but BT are supposedly going to offer
"surftime" options where you can use any ISP and have free off peak acces
(mon. to Fri.) for only £7/month.

Try surfing where your three ISPs give you 500, 275 and 250 bytes

The only time I get decent speed (>2kb) is on Sunday mornings.
