No cheating?

Post by Steve »

Just out of curiousity, how many of you do NOT cheat when playing TT or TTDLX?

Be honest...

I do, but never destruction. See the 'Sabotage' thread.

I am trying to be not cheating, but sometimes I have
to cheat. Like the doctor in "Loistavat Jerkun veljekset"
says: "It's natural. Everybody does that in some day of his life." :)

When playing against a human player, I don't cheat at
all, because it's not fair. But against the stupid AI: sometimes.

Playing against a HUMAN player?
I thought the 2-player-mode of TT is unuseable?

I don't. It is never neccessary. After a while (1957-1960) I have so
much money that I can buy the concurrency. Even if difficulty is 'hard'.

In this England scenario f.e. I connected London and Birmingham and it
is gushing cash. (Oh well, there was somebody who said the AI never
uses ships - in this scenario it does!)

Back to topic: I hate cheats, they kill the fun of any game. 3DTT will
have no cheats and the savegames will be coded heavyly to prevent any
hacking.

TT has some nice anti-cheat-features. F.e. the crash of an airplane is
determined long time before it happens, so you can't reload a recently
saved game to prevent it.

I use Joseph's patch for such things as presignals and big stations, but
I never cheat by increasing my own money or sabotaging the opposition.

I do use a couple of loop holes I know about. But only because in the same
areas the AI has an unfair advantage.

I don't destroy their vehicles. But once in a while I may block their road
vehicles with my trains. Or if their vehicles are using my road, they may
find themselves stranded.

I don't do anything which gives me a sudden increase of money, cause then,
well what is the point.

These days I'm actually getting better at head to head ratings battles with
the AI and so less likely to do anything underhand. The more I understand
how the games works, the more I'll actually play less underhandedly.

Regards,
Steve.

I have seen the AI use a boat. It setup an oil tanker to an oil rig and sent
it to a dock by a refinery. This was when I first ever played TTD, but it's
never done it since. When I first saw it happen I went, "Oooh...perhaps the
AI has been toned up a bit in this game...." I was soon to be proved wrong
however.....

Never........Never needed to.......
The only time I *HAVE* cheated was to get info for the site....
Does this count?

I have 2 copys of TTDLX one with Josefs patch one without.so I can play
without the temptation of cheating.

track for grain, 1 track for livestock, 1 track for iron ore, 1 track for
steel, 1 track for passengers and 1 track for mail. Or you could have 1 track
of passengers and mail and throw in a refinery...

Neither do I.

It is, but you have to autosave frequently (I mean to make the game do it
frequently) because it sometimes crashes. We suppose (cf TTNG FAQ) that it
won't work via Kali, but I did experinced nice game with my brother via my
very little LAN.
You should read the NG's FAQ for more info.

My wife and I have often played two player TTDLX - our computers are
side by side, connected by a simple peer to peer thin Ethernet network -
and we've had no problems.

Win98 first edition. I first set it up under Win95. Looking at another
post, no AI, though. We just play against each other.

Although I did have a 7 track station once (at a city with a factory)
the main thing I like is the facility to be able to add an extra track
to a station without having to demolish it. As traffic builds up, you
can expand the station to handle it.

Probably because you've got a bad LAN.

And C&C 3 is not 'rubbish'. It runs great on my comp, even though I haven't
played it in awhile...

I think you are still using the one track-one train method. I might have

Sometimes I use 2 trains per tracks with passing-things, and sometimes I'll run
two trains with different routes onto one line. But why would you run 20 trains
on one line?

You might have the cities and industries set as high. Mine are set to low, so,
that may be it.

Be honest...

I never cheat, unless you call the "building railway tracks over a piece of
road" cheating. I sometimes make it difficult for competitors with diagonal
track, but I don't consider either of those cheating, because the AI CAN do
it to you.
