Who thinks we should propose TT as the best game ever?

Post by Edward Bernard »

I've been considering going forth onto yonder alt.games.microprose group and
proposing to the all, that TT is the best game Microprose have ever made. Of
course I'll be flamed, and what not, but it'll be worth it!
We will ensure, that the name Transport Tycoon lives on forever!!!
Can I count on you all for support?

No, I just mean we go forth onto the group. We wouldn't need a petition
would we?

I like Transport Tycoon since January 1995 and it's one of my favorite game,
but
I prefer Civilization which have been made by Microprose too.

(replying to two notes at the same time here..)

You need to think about it this way, would you like someone coming to this
NG to propose that say, Baldur's Gate is the best game ever (it is an
excellent game btw).

Propose a survey or something, what is your best five games (I avoid threads
which look like they turn into flames and would be more healthy I think)? TT
is bound to come top :-), a much more cunning way of proclaiming TT is the
best game!!

When I ask myself what happened to 1991, that was the year I played
Civilization non stop, anything else I did that year is a bit of a blur. I
now have Civ II. It was a tough decision to make recently to spend all my
precious hours when I should be tucked up in my bed playing Civ II or TTD.

My top three games at the moment are (in no specific order) TTD, CivII and
Baldur's Gate.

Steve.

2 Age of Empires
3 Baldurs Gate
4 Caesar 3
5 Total Annihilation

Hows that?

Hi,

I have done in the past for a brief period of time just as I finished the
game and wanted to compare strategy notes, ask a few questions and give any
original advice (if there was still any to give).

However a.g.b-g has a very high posting rate and I was spending too much
time reading all the posts, and started playing a different game for a
while. When I play BG again in the future (probably when I get round to
buying TOSC), no doubt I'll be back (still loads in that game to explore).

Good to see someone else with BG in their top three, BG and TT(D) are two
different types of games.
When I ask myself what happened to 1991, that was the year I played

I did that with Total Annihilation for a year or so!
Yip, I know several people who spend a year or so of life playing computer
games. Cheaper than traveling round the world :-) .
I now have Civ II. It was a tough decision to make recently to spend all

TTD.

You play in bed?!
Nope, I have a bad habit of staying up until 2/3am playing computer games
when I need to get up for work the next day.

Steve.

I know that one, about 100 posts per day.....
Then again this place is picking up VERY well, constistantly 25-30 posts per
day.

Yep, but I hate war games and generally don't like flying sims, the only
exception is Tie fighter et al
I did that with Total Annihilation for a year or so!

I cheated, when my daughter was born I had a cast iron reason to stay up
stupidly late and play games on my PC!

WORK......Pah, stay in and play games........Its batter on the eyes, if not
for the bank balance!

I'm not sure there is!!
If you look at the websites out there for TT(D) you could start to say the
same for this game.

Mind you there are quite a few things about TTD I'd like to know how whats
going on in certain places (and not found answer to anywhere). Which in part
is why I'm here to hopefully chat about them with people still playing the
game.

Lucky you. (btw, I've not a clue what Total Annihilation is, I could do a
bit of web surfing to find out though).

I hope for me a new store of disipline will set in this week. No job, no
money to pay the electicity bill and then no computer games :-(.

I think thats the best way to learn to play, as somebody that used to play
years ago probably forgot most of their knowledge.....

Shame......We had a time of that when I quit my job and Kim started hers, I
was being paid weekly (REALLY weakly!) and then we went to being paid
monthly. In that first 3 weeks we had to borrow money from EVERYONE .....

I've figured out a way to not let work get in the way of my game playing, we
play at work!
In the studio where we do the brekfast radio show, we pass around my laptop
and play Risk while the songs are playing between talkbreaks. We have even
played checkers and chess over the internet with listeners while talking
about the game on air, with other listeners watching on thier computers,
then calling on air to comments on how poorly we are playing!

If I were stranded on an island, the 5 games I would want with me: (In no
particular order)

-TTDLX
-Civ 2
-Risk
-Alpha Centauri
-Aerobiz/Aerobiz Supersonic (Actually a Nintendo game I play on my PC with a
ROM & Emulator)

TTDLX (which I currently do not own, but would last me a lifetime)
Starcraft (with a multiplayer hook-up to my sister's desert island)
I'm struggling!
Freecell (The graphics! Ohhh, the graphics! No, it's a good game)
Minesweeper? (Tharshing people's records is a daily job)
SC3000 (which I haven't actually played, but is bound to be good)

My frags-linking brute side is keen on Duke3D and Half-Life.

Oops, there is not enough space for TTO :-(
