In all seriousness, I was thinking the same thing about a week or so ago.

We'll all need the same scenario though - and somewhere to post 'em - this
group won't accept binaries.

I've a site thats got 15mb of space, so I don't mind hosting some stuff.

It could be an online competition!! So, we've 2 interested people so far.
Spread the word, and we'll see where we go from here.

No, I don't think so - just the basic rules to make it fair, for example, no
cheats or patches to be installed, that kinda thing.

I suggest we let the game produce a random map, at that is saved as a
scenario for others to download and use.

People can then mail me their saved games for others to either learn on or
share with.

I think it will be useful for others to see each others maps to learn more
about track layouts and the like ...... but thats just my thoughts!!!!

If no-one else minds, I don't mind being the "host", and I'll be preparing
the rules, etc soon - ie, today.

Thanks for showing an interest!!

I feel like a child getting it's first icecream. I'm jumping up and
down. Man, I can't wait! Once I found a TTDX-contest somewhere on the
Internet, but I was 1 month 2 late. D*mned!

What we're going to do: no/yes disasters?

PS. Someone has hints about making the score higher? I'm quite good in
making money (with TTX I mean, not the 'real'world) , but the score
isn't fine at all:-(

Sounz like fun, tho' it might take me a long time to get to 2050 since I
usually only have about half an hour a day for TTDLX. My latest game has
been going about two weeks now, and I have only reached about 1985.

Just a question!!! How do we found out if someone use a patch or
cheats???
It`s impossible... Not that I would cheat, but it`s not fun if someone
does and nobody founds out!

BTW. It`s a cool idea. I`am gonna start playing as soon as possible.

Apologies for delay in replying.

As far as I know, there are 2 cheats - TTDPatch which affects the .EXE, and
Josefs patch, which adds vehicles, etc.

So, by looking at company profit/income, you could see if there is an
unusual increase. Also, if the game doesn't load on my system (unpatched)
then it could be iffy.

Theres no 100% reliable method, but we'll assume everybody will play fair,
as there are no multi-million prizes to go for!!

No rush - there isn't a time limit on this competition as such - I'll keep
it open "officially" for sometime, and "unofficially" for a bit longer - as
"word of mouth" spreads, I'm sure people will be starting it all the time!!

Sign cheats are easily detectable by "Cht: Used", and the rest leave
clues, but no real proof (if done properly...)

Ever since I wrote this patch I was wondering how this would affect
competitions, whether it would be abused to cheat in them. Personally
I've never participated in one (just not enough time), so I can't really
tell.

But I was thinking of somehow restricting TTDPatch in competitions,
maybe such that the host would prepare a scenario and then mark it with
a special TTDPatch option, and allow only certain switches (if any at
all). This way, the scenario would still be loadable in the original
version, but would fail with TTDPatch if any additional switches are
used.

For example, you could allow pre-signals and extended stations, but none
of the rest.

My only problem is that if any switches are allowed, this would probably
force people to use the patch, in order to keep up with the competition.

So, I'd like to hear everybody's opinion on what to do about this. Is
the above a viable solution, or is there something better?

(note- I'm not reading this group very frequently (I'm only Deja-Newsing
it), so it might take a while to get a reply unless you email too. But
eventually you will, I promise!)

Also, please use the address from my web site, the my-deja address is a
black hole.

Mass apologies for the delay.
I'm awaiting the scenario from Shatter to put on my site.
Due to a balls up, this has been delayed (by me)

Apologies to all - this WILL be going ahead shortly!!
