Could I ask why you would even want one for DOS? :P

If you have a recent build just run it with the -D option.

I've built OpenTTD with DJGPP (a 32-bit DOS compiler) before, it worked OK but not brilliantly. I did look into TCP/IP via WATTCP too, but didn't ultimately get that far. It's perhaps possible, but a bit too much effort to be worth it, to be honest.

Heh, a dedicated server for dos is probably near-impossible....

Dos doesnt do multitasking, so you would have to emulate this yourself by hooking into the timer interrupt, which will probably mean a rewrite for ottd, if its possible at all......

In any case, why would you need this?

Perhaps it would be possible if the server did not fork into the background?

yes, that may be possible.....

But, if you're only gonna run a ottd server on the machine, there is no reason to just use a simple linux install, which would be way easyer.

Maybe we should make a knoppix-like boot-cd image, with ottd installed :-p

hmm, but then there would need to be a way for users to add the .grf files to the images... hmmm

And again, ConiKost: is there a reason you want dedicated ottd server for dos?

I see no reason why that should be the case. Why do you need multitasking? A dedicated server would actually be somewhat easier than a GUI-based system. I have a driver that does video, sound and music under DOS, but it's not the best implementation ever. Coupling OpenTTD with WATTCP and running it - as a dedicated server - as the primary process on the system should work fine, assuming you can get your network card/modem working well enough.

I'm not saying it'd be sensible, just possible. ;)
