Conversion of 2-EPB into 4-EPB

Post by blackfour »

Right, after a little work, i've seperated the 2-EPB into a single EPB car. When coupled to an enhanced (2 more passengers, speed at 75) Compartment coach (2nd British Passenger coach) it makes up a reasonable representation of a 4-EPB, being cheaper to run than a 2 2-EPBs, as well as retaining the ability to keep moving should one powercar fail. However, i've hit a snag. For some reason, somewhere along the line, the bogies have dissapeared. In there place is a white-edged square! I've seen this before, in shots of WEN's Shefflex, and in an early version of the excellent NL Vehicle set...trouble is, my feeble little brain has taken one look, given a small scream, and parachuted out, leaving me wondering how on earth to get the bogies (And my brain) back...can anyone enlighten me? Also, seen as this uses all default sprites, what would be the rules regarding release? Thanx in advance,
Tom

Sounds great Tom, would be a brilliant start to a southern EMU set. I like the idea with failures, where only one motor coach fails. This is the reason behind the real life idea of having 2 motor coaches. In later builds, it was decided to goto a single motor coach idea to save money and weight on reproducing equipment such as starting resistances

Theoretically there's nothing to stop me whipping up a whole set of SR EMU's, trouble is, each one has to go through Pallette Express, so if i get the sizing off, they have to go through again, and again...in the end, i don't have the heart for it, so until i can find something to do Pallette Express' job with minimal hassle, you'll have to make do with this...any ideas on how to rid me of my white squares and get the bogies back, anyone?

I got this error when trying to make double- units from single vehicles where I only added the number of units to field_4 and left field_24[1] alone.

If these values are set, then it wants to display bogeys. To do this bogey sprites need to be present.
<unknown name="field_B4[0]" size="1">1</unknown>"
<unknown name="field_B4[1]" size="1">7</unknown>"

If you don't want bogeys to display, set both fields to '0'
So long and thanks for all the fish.

Thanx for that, but it sadly didn't help. The bogie sprites are there, in the 2EPB folder (This is just the 2EPB split down, using the same graphics) but all it displays are white edged squares, which i just can't understand...the info for the bogies is in the xml as well, i really don't understand why this is happening...

Sorry. If it's any consolation to you, I dispensed with bogeys alltogether in the NL set. Too much hassle.

If you dispensed with bogies, how come your trains have visible wheelsets then?

The visible wheelsets are part of the vehicle sprites themselves. Although Oppie did include separate bogeys, I never used them because -- imho -- they amount to 95% of all problems encountered when encoding a vehicle for LoMo.

At the end of the xml file, are all the lines referring to existing or non-existing bogey sprites correct? (This is easy to overlook).
