TTDPatch manual in HTML Help format

Post by orudge »

Hello everybody,

I have written a script that reads the HTML version of the TTDPatch manual, and writes an HTML Help project file (including contents and index), and also formats the pages more nicely using a stylesheet. I've released an HTML Help file, which you can download from http://www.owenrudge.net/download/download.php?t=2&id=8. The script, written in PHP, is a bit of a hack in some ways, but works - I'm not releasing this just now though.

I will release new versions of the CHM manual as new versions of TTDPatch come out. Hope someone finds this useful! Personally, I think the manual looks better with the new stylesheet than when it's all in Times New Roman. The features of HTML Help (including full-text search) are also very useful.

I've still had a couple of people wondering who it is in my avatar, and am I male or female, etc.

Glad you like the HTML Help file - I spent the last few hours working on it. ;)

Ooh, it's sticky! Did you do this, spiff?

By the way, I added a new download mirror yesterday - Point Mad (France). This is much faster than the Tuxfamily mirror and is recommended for European users. You may find the JervHost (USA) mirror faster though - friends of mine with ADSL generally find that's the case.

I'd be interested in the PHP file. It would be really nice if I could automate this and always make the HTML help file whenever I update the manual. I wonder if there's a texi2chm command...

I wrote a horribly hackish PHP script that went through all the HTML files and added a stylesheet to each (this bit wasn't the hackish bit). I then parsed the table of contents and index to create an HHC and HHK file respectively. (These are contents and index files for HTML Help). It then created an HPJ file (HTML Help project file), which could be built with HTML Help Workshop.

Well, it's a bit of a mess. What do you want it for, just out of interest? If so, I'll probably e-mail it you.
