This topic is here to orient you of the free great programs that are out there. I devided it into sections.

Security
Security software help you keep youre PC free of viruses and spyware

AVG antivirus
You can get AVG antivirus for free. It's monthly updated, and completely trustable. Click the below link and follow the instructions, then update it once a week.

AntiVir Freeware Edition
Another virus killer that is free for non-commercial use. It doesn't require you to register or any other hassle, just download and install it. It doesn't look so well as the big ones, but IMO works just as well.

Spybot
Spybot is a anti-spyware program the removes mostly all spyware on youre PC. Download it, run complete test (Takes a while) and all spyware-b-gone.

Ad-Aware
This is a lesser version of SpyBot, but it does take some stuff that spybot don't. Do not try to get it from elsewhere then this link; most other places have a spyware-version of it.

Ad-aware SE personal build 1.05
An updated version of ad-aware 6 which will find more adware programs than 6.0 can.

Zone alarm
Zone Alarm is a firewall. It make youre PC cpompletely safe for intruders, but sometimes it is anoying; you have to click "Yes" all the time to everything that you want downloaded. That takes time

Web-Browsers
Web browsers are what you use to browse the web. Yes, there is more then IE

Opera
Opera is a norwegian-developed browser. It's good, it's what i use, and it feautures between others tabbed browsing and mouse gestures. I love Tabbed browsing.

Mozilla Firefox
This is the most used browser, besides IE. It hassome security frauds, but it's still mroe secure then IE. It uses tabbed browsing aswell.

MyIE
This is a browser based on the internet explorer. It is quite good, but it weights more heavy on the system then the two others. It however have the most feautures, the most mouse-gesture posibilities... Only, it takes long time to get used to.

Avant Browser
Another good browser that uses IE's rendering engine. Also has tab browsing, smiliar to MyIE2.

Do not use Internet Explorer. It is crap, and a big security risk.

File sharing programs
File sharing programs are programs for downloading stuff off that other people share on the network. MMajorely used for music, games, programs and porn, but you can get almost everything ehitthem.

Bear Share
BareShare is the best gnutella client; it is pretty much adware free, it'll survive a SpyBot scan, most servants don't. Also, the GUI is the best.

Kazaa
This one i don't like. Why? Because it pumps your PC full of spyware, and if you run SpyBot to remove it, it won't run anymore. I discurage any use of it.

Grokster
Basically Kazaa minus feautures. Just as packed of spyware.

Other file-sharing programs
These use other netwroks then gnutella

DC++
It's for file sharing as well. You have to join to some hub(s) to download stuff and to join you have to share something yourself too.

FTP-Programs
FTP programs are the ones you use to upload stuff to websites (Not the forum, but on youre own)

FileZilla
FileZilla is a open-source, free FTP program. It's wery good, and i like the quick login.

SmartFTP
I personally use this FTP client and don't have any problems with it. It's an easy program to use and has all the basic features of FTP - upload, download, chmod, etc.

Web serving programs

Apache Web Server
The worlds most popular web server. Highly recommended. Free program. WITH!!!!! this, you can have a server on yourePCacessable thru the internet and thru the LAN.

PHP Server
Another piece of software for serving websites. It doesnt serve websites on its own, it is used along side a web server. Works great with apache. Allows you to use php for your website.

Mysql Database Server
Allows you to host mysql databases, used powerfully with php.

Imaging programs
Programs for viewing and editing of images

Irfan View
Irfan view is the worlds most popular viewer. It is good por newbies aswell as professionals. It might not have advanced image editing, but it can convert iimages to most know formats, read most image, autio and video files, and, i just noticed myselfe, it has a superb batch renaming, so if you want youre images named something_###, it can do it for you!

Tilestudio
Can be used to create tilebased graphics for games as TTD. The most important difference from MS Paint is that right-click selects the color you click at. That saves you A LOT of time

Media Players

Winamp
A free music player with some nice features. Plays all media types very
well, including .s3m files.

Operating systems

Linux
A totally free, yet very popular and poweful operating system. Some predict that it will eventually take over windows. Get your totally free, no catches version of linux today!

Skyos
A GUI ( Graphics User Interface ) type operating system. As of now it is in the beta stages for version 5.0.

Add Aware is not a lesser version of Spybot, it's an entirely different program. what you prolly mean is that it's not as good.

And Gnutella certainly isn't the biggest: in volume it's Bittorrent and in users it's eDonkey2000.

Another p2p client is Soulseek, and there are at least a zillion Bittorrent programs, but I never got into them really.

An alternative to Kazaa Lite is Diet K, wich blocks Kazaa's spyware but doesn't modify Kazaa itself.

The P2P Kazaa program is not a good idea in denmark.. the Danish anti piret group has riget to seche Kazaa.

Okay, I can only guess what you're trying to say here...

riget = right?
seche = search?

Anyhow, can't PHP really be classified as server? AFAIK it's just a parser for the php language, and if you want it to, it can tell apache what the result of that parsing is.

Also, all the programs you're listing are for Windows.

unix environment for windows, good if you want to compile code, or do most of those other cool *nix type things without having to install the OS. Word of warning, anything compiled with gcc in Cygwin will need some dll's to work

- SpyBot is unfortunately worse than AdAware ... just scan your PC with one of them, then use second one and you will see

- Kerio Personall Firewall (free for personal use) is one of the best ever created firewalls, much more it also protects your PC from viruses that changes your files, and applications that runs other suspicious files

- not MyIE, only Maxthon ... MyIE is old name, and it is no longer expanded, new version is Maxthon, and you are just make people laughing from you by adding "Do not use Internet Explorer. It is crap, and a big security risk. " there, because if you would care about that you would know that Maxthon have nearly ALL IE bugs fixed

- latest most popular p2p program is BitTorrent (with all other BT clients)

But Spybot offers permanent protection and the only thing AddAware usually finds more are some tracking cookies.
I use both.

I don't understand your criticism here, Zetor warns against using IE and gives MyIE2 as one of the alternatives.
