I have played Korenn's spinoff as well and I liked it a lot! First of all, the landscape generator gave great results, I would love to see that landscaping in ottd, instead of weirldly random land (oh, that river... some customisation to that generator and it's perfect! . And besides the economic changes (which make city growing more realistic) the bigger maps were one of the best characteristics of the spinoff. So I know how big 1024x1024 is, but wouldn't think too much before starting a 2048x2048 game. (More than that? I don't think so..).
Also, except the time for saving games (about 1-2 secs), I had no latency issues. Bring those bigger maps in the game, please...
Is there any point in having maps bigger than 1024 x 1024?

dunno
a 2048 x 64 map sounds like major fun too, for multiplayer
but then again, 1024 x 64 would be enough
my own experience is that 1024x1024 already means some parts of the map are completely left untouched even late in the game, so even more would not really add anything.
