Do you get any messages? What happens when you start OpenTTD in debug mode (with -d switch)? Have you copied all required files into the appropiate places? What version (I think 0.3.2.1)?

Come on, we need more information than that, we don't have a magic ball here

I think this is the - "business as usual" - OpenTTD having problems with DirectMusic on Win98 bug report. Did you read the posts about how to avoid it yet?

No error messages, newest version and, strangely openttd.cfg is not on my system, though it should be there, (could that cause it?) so I can't run debug mode. I didn't change anything since the download. I'll read the other posts.

Edit: Noone else seems to have encountered this problem.

you can always run debug mode! Go to a command prompt (start->run->"cmd"), navigate to your openttd directory, and type "ttd.exe -d"

Could you explain in more detail? I can't seem to get it to work (it comes up with "cannot find ttd.exe -d.exe") and I think I misunderstood the process.

Where did I say "-d.exe" ???

Are you on Windows?
Do you know how to open the command prompt (black window that looks like the old dos, or command line interface or terminals on linux).
Start --> Run --> "cmd" <enter>

Now, navigate to your TTD directory. You change directories with "CD <directory>". You go up with "..", etc.
Once you are there, find out how your openttd executeable is named. You can find this in windows explorer, or do a "dir" <enter> and find a file called .exe
Now

Code: Select all

ttd.exe -d <enter>
or if it's named openttd.exe then of course type

Code: Select all

openttd.exe -d <enter>

First of all, I know you didn't say -d.exe, the system did (it mistook openttd.exe -d for a .exe instead of .exe with -d added on.
Second of all, it says: Cannot find the file 'cmd' (or one of its componments). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are avaliable.

I know I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

You said Start-->Run-->"cmd", I'm assuming you mean open the start menu, select run, type cmd or "cmd", and it should open the command promt. This must not be the case as it doesn't work. Also, I am using windows 98, not windows XP, in case there is a difference.

There is. Win98 uses "command" not "cmd". I'm not 100% certain if it works from "command", else try to enter
C:\Games\OpenTTD>start "openttd.exe -d"[/b]

The same thing happens, except a DOS style window in the rear says; dgb; DirectMusic driver: Addport failed

Looks like dominik81 was right. But I can't find any posts on it, can someone provide a link?

EDIT: Oh, wait, I found it.

It finally works (used -s null, but not -m null)

Edit: Oops, should've used edit on the last post.
