Can you reproduce this bug?

Post by dominik81 »

It's very hard to fix a bug, when you can't reproduce it. That's why I'm asking anyone to test the recent nightly build for this bug:

Code: Select all

[ 971515 ] Scenario Editor: Random town generation "overload"

When I use the scenario editor, and I generate a high
number of town (about 60/70 large towns) using the
random town generator, the game slows down, then hangs
completely.

I thinks this is due to the fact that the generator
cannot find a place for a new town because the map is
already full, so it goes into an infinite loop...

To reproduce it:
1/ "Create Scenario"
2/ Land generation/Random Land
3/ Town generation/Large Town
3/ Click about 60/70 times on "Random town"
Please also tell me, which operating system you have running and maybe your RAM.

I downloaded the latest nightly build and I hit the maximum number of towns pretty fast. What is the max city limit set to?

I can't reproduce it within the max number of cities at least.

I cannot reproduce it either. After clicking 'Random Town' a ton of times it just wouldn't build a new one. Then trying to build a town on my own, I got the error message: "too many towns".

Just off the top of my head, and with very limited knowledge of the scenario editor... Can't you increase the size of a town with a button?

So if you made a load of large towns (below the limit), then increased the size of them a lot, then try to make a load more large towns, maybe that would produce the above error.
Just an idea.

Possibly, however, expanding cities takes ages once you have gotten them up to say 5-6k in population.
