Graphic set for each town

Post by Nem »

Since we’ll probably have a lot of new graphics in the future, maybe a far future, could be nice to have a dedicated set of graphics for each town, or group of towns.

Each town, or group, will have his own stile of buildings and vehicles.

For example if you build a train in a depot that belongs to XXX city, than you can build only the trains that belongs to the set linked to XXX city plus generic trains.

This could be the rightly solution for integrate all the train sets that are in development.

This would only make sence when you use big-maps too. Otherwise the cities are too close to each other for different sets.

vehicles aren't specific to different towns, they are international.

same for buildings.

there is no point.

basically, we should just increase the number of buildings we have, so the towns have more variation.

we could add more theatres to play in, eg toyland=temperate america or europe.

That way we can keep each theatre clean, without having so many different sets at the same time.

With 4 sets You can split the map in four areas and use first set for north cities, second for south ones and so on.
In this way you can have a little nations.

The OpenTTD world contain only few cities, using different vehicles make the game less boring (graphics and not gameplay)
Indeed I spoke about vehicles because the are a lot of graphics in development, but the idea is for all the graphics: Industries, banks, houses, ...

Are you joking? I don't know where you live, but in Italy I've never seen two identical banks, industries, stadiums, ....

It's your opinion.

Right, but I like the idea that every cities, or set of cities, have his own building style.

in Italy, all the towns are connected by road by 1950.

I said, same for buildings, since buildings are often repeated a hell of a lot.

Terraced housing can be up to a mile of nonstop same buildings.

TTD, or OTTD, is a game, not realistic, or so I was told.

I don't understand your racism.

However, just for your knowledge, in Italy towns are connected by road by over 2500 years ago.

As I said it's a far future.

This is a suggestion forum, not only a "do better ttd" forum.
It's natural that I, and others, ask several advanced or complex features.
The developers will decide what they'll use or discard.

exactly, and thats my point.

Roads in TTd do not connect cities at the beginning of the game, and don't need to be, since it would make an easy set up for bus services.

we don't need separate graphics sets either, just one big one, with enough sprites so that the buildings aren't repeated much.

Born Acorn, I think his suggestion is good, so there :P

but it should be solved by making them all new objects, instead of different pictures for the same building. That's needed already, and then it would be a question of making certain cities prefer certain buildings, which should not be difficult at all.

A bit off-topic, but I don't think that'd be a bad thing since bus/lorry routes are really unprofitable having an existing road network to work with could be quite an incentive.

No one is currently working on electrified tracks, at least not to my knowledge.

i think that the schedule of the works should be this:

1) new railway tracks
1b) airports
2) graphics sets
3) new realistic slopes for railways, see my topic: http://ttforums.owenrudge.net/viewtopic.php?t=8102
4) large docks
