Installer for OpenTTD
I'd like to write a program that makes it easy to install OpenTTD. Here's what it would do:
Locate the TTD Folder (Windows users) or prompt for the folder (if you have the DOS TTD) and copy the required graphics and CAT files. It'll then proceed to install OpenTTD.

Yes, an installer would be supergreat.
I'd also like to see an installer I could double-click in my Nautilus window

Installers are so easy to write..
I used to be working on an installer for TTDPatch and new graphics.
You select the patch you want, you select the graphics you want, you select the optional manuals you want, the program downloads it and installs it. Graphics are added to newgrfw.cfg, etc.
All with NSIS too.
I still have the source.
Maybe I'll continue with it.
BUT that's OT
And Born Acorn and stuff: Owen already said he'll do one. (or were you begging Owen for it? )

Is there anything you will be doing yourself? >_<orudge wrote:I spoke to RaggieSoft on MSN a couple of days ago and he will make the installer, and then I'll take it, perhaps modify it a bit, and release it officially.

Installer Update
The installer is back up! I finally got OpenTTD working! There's even some new graphics to give my installer the TTD look!
http://members.cox.net/tallwoodband/openttd
The dialog graphics are ugly. I welcome submissions of TTD looking graphics. Simply send them as BMP files comressed into ZIP to me in an email. File Sizes:
Welcome / Finish dialog: 501 x 314
All Other Dialogs: 500 x 63
Would you like to know when I release an update to the installer? Send me an email with the subject "Mailing-List: OpenTTD Installer Updates."

Installer using my own tool
When did you say that? I don't remember that (unless that was the message you sent that CQ claimed was spam and blocked from me).orudge wrote:Hmmm, I thought you were using Inno Setup 4? I'd prefer that, personally.
I decided to switch to a tool that I use in-house that I wrote myself. I did that mainly to accomidate a feature called Dynamic Components (which allows the end-user to make sure they have the latest version during install) and an "Express v. Custom install." One user asked for an installer that doesn't ask for too many questions.
Also, this installer will soon be able to copy the correct files from the TTD CD or an installed version of TTD.
If you'd like, I'll switch to Inno Setup 4.1.8.

What is NSIS?
Thanks. What is NSIS?CobraA1 wrote:Your in-house installer sounds good. I personally like NSIS, but whatever works best for you.
