How to make new GRFs?

Post by Bastiaan »

Hello,

I want to make new GRFs. I'm am going to start with some phantasy trains.
I know that I must draw the trains with i.Mage and that I must save them as a PCX-file. But can I draw the trains with paint too? Using paint is much easyer than using i.Mage!

Please, help me.

You can draw them with paint, as long as you save them as pcx file. I'm not sure if paint can do that.

Yes, if I save it as "blablabla.pcx" it becomes a PCX-file whitch I can open with paint. PCX-files whitch have been created with i.Mage can't be opened with paint...

My second question is how to draw the trains. What is the limit of the length? Do I have to draw all the 8 sights?

but will it be a pcx file or a bmp with a pcx extension?

pcx is not in the save as window and thus I doubt paint can handle these images.

See my previous post. Yes, I think it is a PCX-file with a bmp-extension... :(

Hmm, that's a pity... :(

Thus I MUST draw them with i.Mage?

Or save them as bmp, open it with iMage and save it as pcx.

I recommend Photshop. If you can't afford it, buy the lighter version or get it the obvious way.

dizcon for GRF editing I really can not recommend photoshop...
Photoshop makes it harder for me to select the right colors from the available palette.. This is why I use PSP 8.

OK, this is what I'm going to do:
- I draw a train with paint (how long is the maximum?)
- I save it as a bitmap.
- I open it in i.Mage.
- I save it as a PCX.
- And then???

I agree, PS wouldn't let me select colors from the palette either, so I made a shot of the palette and just keep it open..

I had to use PSP for a web design competition some weeks ago, and I hated it.

Killer:
If I was to download Photoshop, I would have gotten it from a private FTP server
