The OpenTTD 16 Title Screen Competition

Hello everyone, and welcome to the OpenTTD 16 title screen competition! This is your opportunity to design and help choose the savegame which plays behind the main menu of OpenTTD; pictured above is Erato's winning entry for the OpenTTD 15 release.

The rules for the competition are as follows:

SCHEDULE
  • Submission deadline: 26 July, 2026 at 23:59:00 UTC.
  • Voting opens by 31 July.
  • Voting closes: 7 August, at 23:59:00 UTC.
ENTRY AND VOTING

All entries will be posted to this topic as a savegame. You may change your entry at any time, but only one entry will be accepted by the close of entries. If updating, please post a new entry and either delete the old entry or PM a moderator to have it removed.

Voting will take place on GitHub, as it did for OpenTTD 15.

TITLE SCREEN GUIDELINES
  • The map size must be 256 x 256 or smaller. Entries larger than this will be rejected.
  • To avoid including the black void at the edge of the world on large, high-resolution monitors, the Infinite Water map edges option is suggested.
  • This will be a first impression of the game for many new players, so create something which you feel summarizes the game. This is usually a busy, exciting scene showing off many modes of transport, but there are no rules about what must be shown.
  • We often show off new game features. This year, visible features include trains driving backwards and desert rocks.
  • You can use camera control signs to show many views of your game. Remember to test the commands you write, and that the player's screen resolution or window size can affect what gets shown and does not get shown. Test on multiple different resolutions if possible. Instructions on using the camera controls is here: viewtopic.php?p=1248166#p1248166
  • Breakdowns will automatically be disabled. Cheating for money is OK. Unprofitable companies are OK. Building with multiple companies is OK. Building the game in the Scenario Editor is OK.
  • Do not use AIs, GameScripts, or NewGRFs. These cannot be used in a title game.
  • The game must be created in an official build of OpenTTD; we suggest a 16.0 beta or RC build (16.0-beta1 will be out imminently). The game cannot be created in custom modified versions of OpenTTD or in popular patch packs such as JGR Patch Pack, LtJoker's Patch Pack, Reddit client, CityMania client, etc.
Feel free to check out OpenTTD 15 for inspiration.

Good luck!

First time, hopefully I'm doing this right!

Might tweak this one a bit more and resubmit, but I'm pretty happy with where it is now. This was a really fun excuse to play full vanilla again! I honestly can't remember the last time I played without GRFs or scripts. I like the new reverse mechanics, too.

I made some minor changes to show the new reverse mechanics and hopefully this should be better :)

In case it's not obvious, your entry should be your own work not taken from someone else's entry.
He's like, some kind of OpenTTD developer.

I guess I assumed this rule was obvious: Your entry must be your own, or if you want to work together, everyone involved must agree to this. Please do not modify other people's entries and re-submit them as your own.

Please feel free to submit a different entry, but this one will not be considered as you have simply modified and re-submitted someone else's entry.

Update to my previous entry; cooked my spaghetti some more.

I'm unable to edit or delete my previous post, and apparently I haven't been a member long enough to send a PM to anyone. Would appreciate if any moderators could delete my previous post for me!

I didn't have much time but still wanted to submit something neat.
I forgot to enable the camera helper script and could not figure out how to follow vehicles so I only have fixed cameras. Hope you like it

I played some more but I think it may be past the submission deadline. I am going to submit it anyways. There might be a few issues with trains not reversing properly in some stations. I also wonder if I should have purchased more vehicles on some lines.

Oops, I wanted to post one more update on my title screen but I misread the deadline as July 31st rather than July 26th. Ah well!

Out of curiousity, what resolution are you using for the video clips?

I record on my primary monitor at 1920 x 1080, at 2x interface scale.

In the past I've also recorded at 1x interface scale and made both videos available, but I didn't have time to do that this year, due to a busy period at my real job. :)

I am hoping someone steps up to take over or help run the title screen competition in the future. PM me if anyone reading this is interested. :)
