Will sawmill production decrease naturally?

Post by Transporteiro »

I'm playing on a map that has a sawmill, and I'm noticing it just cutting and cutting trees, and they are not regrowing as fast as they are cut.

Thus, it seems that eventually production will decrease due to lack of wood for cutting.

Do I need to manually plant trees to replenish the ones taken down?

Yes, that's the whole idea. You have to replant trees manually.

How far can the sawmill cut the trees?

I suppose it has a maximum reach and stop cutting trees after it.

Reaching the entire map would be stupid.

According to OpenTTD's code, the limit is 20 tiles in each direction.

I suppose the game isn't so detailed as to make difference between the different tree species.

I suppose that the tree planting cost is lower than the logs selling price.

Are those two claims true?

The lumber mill can only be built in "rainforest" areas, and I think you can only plant appropriate trees in that. Other than that, it shouldn't distinguish between tree types when cutting down, no.

there is 2 different versions of the saw mill. the version you are referring to seem to be the one not in temperate. you need to watch it and plant trees manually when it cuts them. the amount you earn however is much higher than the amount you spend.
