Possibility to modify content you haven't created in BaNaNaS ?

Post by acs121 »

Hello,

Recently I have stumbled upon this page on BaNaNaS : https://bananas.openttd.org/package/newgrf/47385205
I would like to know if there is any way to edit the description of this NewGRF. The reason for it is that despite remembering having asked which sprites I had created the author of this NewGRF used for it, I still do not know which ones he used. Moreover, I do not recall any memories at all of me drawing a bus sprite, not even for a vehicle set. While I wouldn't want to make a fuss about it, I do not find it rightful to be given credit for something I have no memory of and that the author didn't specify which sprites he used from me.

We all have those days, right? :)

Since the NewGRF author has been permanently banned, if you want your name expunged from the description you'd have to ask the admins. Probably the best place to start that discussion would be #openttd-development on the discord server.

Yea, I might not be the only one to have had those moments, but... difference is I'm quite young so memory issues aren't mine yet, and have all the sprites I've ever drawn in a single folder even for those I've never shared. :?
Moreover I never had an answer from the author about which sprites he took but I understand why now.
Will ask it on the server for sure.

Also, this newgrf doesn't even work. This is probably the reason why the author was banned - he supplied the server with non-functional garbage. :D

The problem is broader than just one add-on or one author. There are add-ons (AI in particular) which used to work perfectly well, but have compatibility issues with newer versions of the game. In some cases, the issue is very easy to fix, but the authors have gone unreachable long ago.

This isn't the same issue at all (and, fwiw, since the AI in question is GPL, there's nothing preventing you uploading your fixed version to Bananas).

Yes, I could upload a fixed version under a different ID, but the original broken version will be still available for new games. From the technical point of view, the situation is exactly the same, even though the causes are different.

I actually looked into this one when I began looking for how to make a bus set of my own, it is annoying but he's apparently aware of the problem. I mean, maybe it's just me since it was done a while ago, but the bug report already exists on the issue and was made by the creator... https://github.com/Gadg8eer/OTTD-FutuRVs/issues/1 ...who claims he's planning to use standardized roadtype lables. I've noticed a lot of recent changes were made to the wiki page about the standard after that point, which might stall the process of anything being developed. Even before I joined, considering the edits to that page were all either well-accepted (or that no one complained they didn't make sense) or removed from the current page without any edit warring, I suspect he's only modding for personal use now.

As for why he is no longer working on it, I would imagine his ban may make that impossible as standardization requires coordination and from what I've seen he's not very liked. The majority of his recent changes, however, seem to be to another OpenTTD mod repository, and I haven't seen anyone else try this... https://github.com/Gadg8eer/tracktype-e ... -templates

I don't know what happened, but call it a hunch. I think he's trying to make something that might be worth looking at, even if the guy's a complete asshole.

I think he may have confused you with Nekomaster? The graphics were created by him in a thread you posted in. Nekomaster has a stick figure cat as a profile image and 'neko' is Japanese for cat, while you currently have a photo of a cat. viewtopic.php?p=1220834#p1220834

That is absolutely your prerogative. As you say, we're here "to play with trains and busses", and not to entertain your drama any more than anyone else's.
