How can I disable "sandbox options"

Post by ekono1 »

I don't want sandbox options in my sight. Because I can click, then cheat. I don't want this. It makes game less challenging and less fun. How can I disable sandbox options in my client? Please.

You cannot. Despite its previous given misnomer, those features are not cheating. They're just additional options. You're not doing anything wrong by using them.

If you don't like the additional features and cannot resist using them, then your only other option is to find a copy of Transport Tycoon Deluxe and run it on the appropriate 1990s-2000s era hardware or try making it run in emulation.

Really really simple. Don't press ctrl-alt-c.
You'll never see the options.

Seriously, you don't have the self-discipline to not use the sandbox options?

(Fair enough, some people regulate better than others).

But you have the self-discipline to not turn the options on if they're off?

Now it's normally in the menu.
Personally, I'm glad it's there, it comes in handy sometimes. I use it and turn it off. :)

If you start the game as local multiplayer, rather than single player, you won't have access to the sandbox options...

Thanks for that. I've been playing my current game for a couple of years now and haven't updated.
So, to correct my earlier comment...
Download an earlier version of the game. They're not in view.

It wasn't a misnomer. TT/TTD/OpenTTD is primarily an economic game, and adding free money was and still is cheating if you treat the game according to its original design.

Using these options is still considered cheating by the game, for which the player is punished. After changing the name, the player should not suffer any consequences and it should be as you write, but it hasn't been changed.

This is an accurate observation. Changing many regular settings could also be considered cheating. However, I admit that self-discipline can be tiring and the game is actually better when you don't have to fight temptations all the time. :)

Regarding this division of options between regular game settings and sandbox options, for me it has become a bit... senseless. Currently, some of the regular settings, such as infinite money or permissive local authorities, give the player much more than these special sandbox options. I don't understand what's so special about changing the maximum height of the map. I don't understand why 100% station rating, tunnel crossings or no plane crashes can't be regular game settings that the player won't have to enable every time. I know I'm repeating myself, because I've already written about it, but for me it's really incomprehensible.

And by the way, especially now after the cheating option has been castrated and options "You win!" have been added to regular settings, the game lacks an option like "Challenge mode" that would make the game a bit more demanding, where you wouldn't be able to change any settings related to the gameplay nor NewGRF/AI/GS settings and where offline play could also be a challenge... and not just a boring* sandbox.

Something like this ;)

  • Dark blue color indicates the settings you cannot change when Challenge mode is enabled -this would be useful even without the introduction of this option.
  • If you disable this option during the game, your status will be changed to "cheater", e.g. Engineer / President / Tycoon of cheating
  • Enabling this option would only be possible before starting the game - to avoid a situation where someone would disable this option in the editor, and when they achieved the expected result in the game, they would enable it and pretend that they had played fairly all the time.
I am sorry for may English. I know is bed.

OpenTTD is not Transport Tycoon Deluxe. It has evolved beyond that.
