This set offers roads.
All roads, except ROAD (Cityroad, Sidewalk) and ELRD (Cityroad, Electrified) can be disabled via parameter.
If not needed, the hidden roadtypes (for compatibility with a couple of Kreumelchen's sets) can also be disabled.
The intention is to make them suitable for vehicles that use labels from the Standardized Road/Tram Type Scheme.
Further than that, the roads are NOT compatible with the Standardized Road/Tram Type Scheme.
More information about that here: viewtopic.php?t=90715

The idea of so many full-tile roads, is that they can be overlayed by eyecandy tramtracks. (some may also be usable for the other roads too)
That way you can make a lot more different looking roads, without using too many of the very scarce 64 road/tramtrack ID's
Hopefully a separate eyecandy overlay for roads, that doesnt use slots of the very scarce 64 road/tramtrack ID's, may be possible in the future...

When used in combination with Kreumelchens WaterWayRoads, place my roadset before the WaterWayRoads GRF.
Also disable the Seawaterway and Lakewaterway, via parameter, in my GRF, as WaterWayRoads offers exactly the same looking roads,
but if you disable them in that GRF, you will loose a couple more (Swamp Fairway & Frozen Lakewater Fairway)
For the Electrified Roads you can use a separate GRF to change the appearance of the Catenary, I recommend the LightrailTramtracks (also on BaNaNas): viewtopic.php?t=30593
A matching (forked) version of the Dutch Road Furniture Set can be found here: viewtopic.php?p=1263011#p1263011

Inspired by Javelinnl, Erato, ufiby, Andrew350 and all other roadset developers that inspired me.
Special thanks to GarryG to inspire me with the cul-de-sac endings of certain roads, the Formula-1 roads and adding a bit of dirt next to some of the roads with grass.
Special thanks to Brickblock1 and Kreumelchen for their work on the Standardized Roadtype Scheme.
And another mention for Kreumelchen, thank you for your work on adapting all of your sets, so they can work with this roadset.

Re: Quast65's Road Set

Post by SkiddLow »

Congratulations, Quast65 is making a new road set. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The road set soon to be released for public (BaNaNas), also first time you can have sport car / racing car driving in the 'Racing Track', airport/airstrip can use Taxiway & Airport concrete over asphalt road and red & green road are suitable for classic town. Additional, for the road marking colour options (parameter) should be added is yellow marking and white-yellow marking (Inspired by Indonesian style of roadway, white marking for Cityroad & Countryroad, yellow marking for Motorway & Highway).

road marking colour options
I have no interest in making those myself.
I may consider adding that parameter if someone draws those graphics.

Very interesting set. I will give it try once its out.

Im gonna assume you dont take requests, but il try anyway. Could you make the rural road into low-end street and rural and country roads available with wires as well? Cant really provide real life example for the electrified roads but they would be usefull.

I can have look upon that but no promises. I assume usual "american" markings will do? As white outer lines and yellow middle lanes.

Well... For the moment, I think I am going to say no...
It would mean that I may end up with getting requests for highspeed with wires and industrial with wires too.

Just to show what the "power" of an eyecandy overlay for roads can be...
I made an eyecandy tramtrack, basically grass at the sides of a road.
If you overlay that over the full-tile roads, you can get this:
Image
11 "new" roads, that would otherwise have used 11 ID's... Now just 1 ID (for the eyecandy tramtrack) is needed.

This looks intriguing but I'm not sure if I completely understand the concept - so the stuff that you showed on top opening the thread are these 27 or so road types which will all have different properties (and therefore IDs) and will only allow certain vehicles to run on, to make sure for example a "boat vehicle" only runs on the seawaterway and the canal while an airplane should only run on taxiway and airport concrete while of course "normal" cars will run only on "normal" streets and not water or airfields?

And then you want to make additional "tramtracks" but not with the intention to actually run trams (and only trams) on them but to overlay to the 27 road types shown on top for further diversification, but just to "look nice" not for added functionality?!?

For example, a crash barrier (British English)/guard railing (American English) for mountain roads?

Or some street lights?

Sorry, il explain better: Take rural road and add sidewak and cul-de-sac to make low-end, unmarked street, you could say "basic street". Its basickly just for eyecandy/realism as i never seen low-end streets with markings (sometimes even main roads dont have markings here...).

Yes

Yes! (with that method, you can have a lot more different looking roads, without using a huge amount of ID's).
For example, a crash barrier (British English)/guard railing (American English) for mountain roads?
Or some street lights?
Yes!! (The options are limitless)

Aha!
Well, that can be done by using the full tile (50km/h) asphaltroad and then use an eyecandy (tramtrack)overlay, to create that look.
Like I have done in the example with grass "sidewalks"
That kind of overlay is already on the to-do list.

Some Dutch too...

Serious answer, you could overlay the Fomula1 tracks with eyecandy roadmarkings...

Cheers, I look very much towards putting your vehicles on them via labels from the Standard Scheme (as that will free up a lot of slots, because it will eliminate a lot of hidden roadtypes)

At the moment, I have made 5 types of overlays:
Q65TTS_04.png
Q65TTS_04.png (68.55 KiB) Viewed 2972 times
So, with these 27 roadtypes (and especially the fulltile ones) and 5 eyecandy tramtypes, I can certainly already make over 80 different looking roads...
Bye bye 64 roadtype maximum

EDIT:
Would this overlay work for the non-Europeans?
Q65TTS_05.png

You can still have roads with white markings too then (as I believe those are used for some non-European roads too in combination with yellow-marked ones).

OH! Thats even better solution, good thinking. And to the yellow marking: Yeah looks good, i will def have use for it, thank you

Just a little nitpick not towards your set only but in general, i feel like having "trolley network" category and "eyecandy network" category (like we have road network category and tram network category) would be in place here, so we can use multiple networks on each other with more creativity with out sacrificing IDs of roads and tramways and theyre useability. I dont think thats gonna happen any time soon though, if at all :)

I totally agree!!
But I feel that someone just has to start with showing the nice possibilities that overlays have for roads.
Hopefully that inspires game-devs to make seperate features of it.
I dont think thats gonna happen any time soon though, if at all
Custom roadstops was never going to happen too...
I hope that the development of those will give more attention to the eyecandy possibilities of roads, like custom tunnelentrances per roadtype (like with trains) and that may lead to the addition of the 2 categories you mentioned (a separate trolley menu, like trams, would be very handy and keeps the road-menu more tidy).

Like your roads , especially the grass. I have some car parking where cars park on grass. So these grass roads would go good at country sports ovals where they have no proper roads.

Also go well on farms and also to drive across the country to your favorite fishing and camping spot near a river. :D

I have the first problem.
If I use the JGR Patchpack with the Public road setting, city roads with sidewalks are used as public roads, rather pointless.
Of course, this is only a cosmetic problem, if it cannot be solved in some appropriate way, let it float. :)
But the trolleybus garage probably didn't work out somehow

This is espected behaviour.
I use a lot of eyecandy objects in my games to make cities.
The problem then is, is that the actual town-zones are smaller than they look.
This means that roads only get sidewalks in some parts of the city and not in other parts.
Roads can have 2 appearances, in-town-zone and outer-town-zone.
I made the choice that both look the same (in-town-zone, with sidewalks).

You could ask JGR to include a setting where you can choose the road that will be used for the between-city public roads (in case of my GRF, I would choose the 60km rural road).

As a solution, I would say, just use the replace-road tool and replace those public roads with the type of road you find best.
