Vehicle Creator Questions

Post by dialga8642 »

Hello!
It's me again, the guy who just wants mbta trains in locomotion back again.
So, I'll jump into my story. i recently set up a VM of Windows XP just so i could use the Vehicle creator. Walter1940 had said in my previous post from nearly 2 years ago that Windows 10 could be my issue.
My new issue is that after figuring out roughly what to do as far as the vehicle creator/msts2loco is concerned, i put the DAT into the objdata folder but i couldn't find my file after opening Locomotion. i got the xml and the dat to generate, i created the image files and converted them, set values to a rough guess of what they should be from the tutorial i was reading. I am wondering what i did incorrectly.
second question: is there a video guide for the creator anywhere?

Edit 1: are there any other palettes I could use with Wally? one of the locomotives I'm trying to make doesn't convert to png with the correct colors for some reason as well.

I am a complete novice at this and any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

Re: Vehicle Creator Questions

Hi,

Unfortunately, I have major problems editing with Windows 10. That's why I'm already taking a longer (enforced) break.
In the next few weeks or months, I will start using the PC with Windows 7 again. Then I will continue working again.

To my knowledge, there is no video. Only my written tutorial.

---> https://www.walter1940.de/tutorial/wally/english/

Here you will find 2 colour palettes to load. ---> https://www.walter1940.de/tutorial/

EDIT
btw. However, I have already told you here that there can be problems with Windows 10. ---> viewtopic.php?t=89305

Thank you for the links to the tutorials and to the palettes. I will look through those and load up my XP machine and continue to mess around with it.

Re: Vehicle Creator Questions (Partial build success)

Post by dialga8642 »

Okay, so i finally found partial success. Locomotive, coach, and cabcar operate as expected! Locomotive colors are very wrong. Spacing between locomotive and coaches/cabcar is too close.
question 1: what can i do to correct the incorrect colors?
2: how do i fix the spacing?

Thanks in advance

Second update. I forgot about the failure GP40 that has incorrect colors and the angle is very incorrect.

This is done via the field "bogeypos" from the Vehicle Creator. If you let the programme itself determine the length of the coaches, then add about 2 - 3 more. You have to test how long it still looks good. It is purely a matter of trial and error.
However, your coaches are very long. Can you shorten them to 17.5 metres? Then there is no problem with the distance and it looks better in curves.

There's something wrong with the pictures. You can only see this if 136 pictures were not taken or (and this is more likely) the pictures have a graphic error.
Therefore, take the pictures again and make sure the number of pictures is correct.

If necessary, send me the locomotive by email. Then I will switch on the Windows 7 PC earlier than I thought.

When I converted the coaches I thought they looked too long..
how do I shorten them? would I have to convert them again? or can it be fixed in the xml?

I'll convert it again and see if that fixes the issue.
Also if i can't fix the issues with the locomotives/coaches would you be willing to help me with that? I would really appreciate it. i feel bad sending files over and essentially giving up on it. I know plastikman and others got fed up with people asking for trains and stuff back in the day. (I was one of those kids. asking for these exact trains..) but i really have no idea what I'm doing and don't fully know how i got the F40 and the coaches to the point they're at now. pure luck has gotten me this far

Unfortunately, I never translated this part of the (German) tutorial into English. It would be quicker to do it myself than to translate the part now.

https://www.walter1940.de/tutorial/msts ... deutsch/#D
Maybe also because the Photoshop part doesn't work in English.

Give me some time. A few days. Then you can send me everything, especially the MSTS models. I will then shorten the models and create the pictures. Then you can do the rest.

Here you will find this file. But that is apparently not the problem, ----> https://www.walter1940.de/tutorial/
At that time, I deposited this file in different places to make sure that it would be found by the programmes.
Among others, in the folder "Windows" and the subfolder "Windows/System".

Send me the file (MSTS folder with ace.files and of course the S.files and sd.files.) to my email address.
