[JGRpp] Mountains and Prairies (2048x4096)

Mountains and Prairies is an epic map based on the landscape and economy of Western Canada. From the towering peaks of the mineral-rich Rockies to the wide open farmland of the Great Plains, this scenario approximates most of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the west part of Ontario. The scenario has a focus on realism. Most industries and settlements are placed in realistic locations to offer an exciting challenge.

Map Size: 2048x4096
Start Date: 1860
Requires JGR Patch Pack v0.40.0. I haven't tested on newer versions...
NewGRF Requirements: AIRS 1.1.0, NARS2.5 and more

Key Industries (main regions shown in brackets)
  • Grain and Farming (South - Alberta, Saskatchewan + Manitoba)
  • Steel and Metallurgy (South East - Manitoba + Ontario)
  • Coal and Ores (South West - British Columbia)
  • Oil and Petroleum (North West - Alberta)
  • Wood and Timber Products (South West + South East - British Columbia + Ontario)
Scenario Map
Only large towns shown. Scenario contains hundreds of towns and settlements.

The towns and cities are approximately similar to their real-life counterparts, though in this scenario they take their names from ghost towns across the region.
  • Vidora = Vancouver
  • Carnagie = Calgary
  • Richfield = Edmonton
  • Similkameen = Saskatoon
  • Oderin = Regina
  • Halkett = Winnipeg
  • Port Talbot = Thunder Bay

Hints:
Delivering grain from elevators to grain mills in cities is highly profitable and easy to access. Farms are eye candy only (they do not produce or accept any cargos).
Shipping coal and ore from the Great Lakes (SE corner) is a quick and easy way to start your metallurgy flow.
Funding and placing secondary industries is an important part of this scenario.

Notes:
The day length factor is set to 3 to allow players the chance to grow their network without feeling rushed. Newer players may wish to focus on a specific area of the map
See the related AIRS thread for more information on the industry newGRF.

Now available on BaNaNaS.

Carnagie Main Station is busy with local and express passengers. A full grain train powers south west over the river.

Unfortunately, AIRS version 1.04 is not on Bananas.
When I run the game with version 1.10, even though OpenTTD says they are compatible, I get weird errors like mills receiving fertilizer and such (cargos ID change?)
This makes the scenario unplayable. So he would go play, but it would be very ridiculous. For example, a potash mine produces pig iron, very funny :D

You might have to delete the old version of AIRS. There is a difference in cargos between 0.4.0 and 1.1.0, which explains the weird behaviours.

I double checked, version 1.1.0 is available. I've uploaded a new version of the scenario (1.6) which definitely has the correct version of AIRS in the newGRF list. Please let me know if you have any further trouble.

It looks fine now. It's just a shame that fishing is missing from this industry. I doubt there isn't in Canada. Basically, there is almost no reason to use ships.V
There are also lakes in the scenario. I thought it was more of a landlocked industry, but it falters a bit here. No offense. :)

Really enjoying this scenario. I'm a Vancouverite so I decided to play starting in BC and building up the funds to start putting routes across the rockies to get at the metals and grain. However, early train and industry limitations on the West Coast mean I ended up spinning my wheels and waiting for years and years. I considered spawning some iron ore on Vancouver Island (historically accurate) to kick industry off a bit, but there's not enough of the island on the map and the iron is on prospect only by default. I think it would have been better to start in the East and make Vancouver an end-goal of the network. I might add a few station and vehicle options and a city growth script and start in Sask next time. Loving the industries and the map. Nice work dude.

What version of the game are you using?
This is a game scenario for the JGR Patchpack, so it probably cannot be downloaded in the normal version.

What GRFs are you using for this? The stations look great and I love the predominately one track sections. Do you have any more screenshots or a save?
