OpenTTD ttdistas and JFServer thread

Post by JohnFranklin523 »

There are two server series that imitate the real world to some extent:
http://ttdistas.es, normally including two servers, run by Montana in Spain, PepsiRaver in Germany, and so on.
http://JFServer.net, including only one server now, run by John Franklin in China (yes, it’s me).

However, there are no forums on these two websites. Thus we would like to make it easier to communicate with other players either online or offline, and have found tt-forums a good platform.
I don’t know if this is permitted.

Feel free to start a dedicated topic here, and if demand grows enough we can consider a dedicated sub-forum.

JFServer started a new map, The Crimean Peninsula.
Thanks to STD who made the scenario.

Here is a funny screenshot in JFServer Hokkaido Map, at Asahikawa (北海道旭川市), illustrating a traffic jam of planes, shot on 2030-04-29 game time, 2022-12-11 15:56 UTC+08 real time.

This is caused by not only the small airport but also the game mechanics of planes and airports.

Image

The Chinese sign on the airport reads "Wait a minute, I will upgrade it". However, the player cannot upgrade it because the intercontinental airport needs 9*11 tiles, not 8*9.

Do you know that airports can be closed? This will prevent planes from landing, but not from taking off. Eventually there will be no planes left, and it will be possible to bulldoze the airport and replace it with a bigger one.

Also, there seems to be just enough room for an intercontinental airport. The blue player would have to remove the road and a row of buildings on the northwest side, as well as the depot and one of the tunnels on the southwest.

As a rule, however, airports are very good at collecting passengers but very bad at sending them through. Even building the intercontinental airport will not really fix the problem. You would need to attach a big railway station, or, better still, a port.
