Hi!
I would like to read how do you deal with train depots (assuming you play with maintenace and breakdowns) to avoid wandering trains who get lost on the wrong tracks.
A depot right after a junction is probably the worst place for placing it, so:
* Where do you put them?
* Do you force trains to enter a depot?
* Do you place visiting a depot in train orders?
I'd like to see your suggestions and/or designs.

I play with breakdowns disabled, but trains still “wander off” as you so accurately put it, to autoreplace. Adding a depot order in the vehicle’s orders disables this wandering, though, so I do that (it’s usually an escape depot for freight trains anyway).

Something for those interested in the topic of maximizing profits while minimizing costs.

Re: Most efficient train depots placement
When playing with breakdowns, I usually place depots directly on the mainline with 50-200 tile intervals.
There are great discussions of depot placement on the openttd wiki, openttdcoop wiki and elsewhere, but their main concern is keeping the trains from slowing down on the mainline. When you are playing with breakdowns, your trains are going to stop on the mainline anyway, and the only thing you can still do is make sure that the reliability is restored every now and then.

Thank you all for your suggestions and designs. I'm testing some of these solutions and now my trains rarely get lost.
