New tool for track upgrade

Post by Wahazar »

We have lot of new track types, but still same coarse tool for track upgrade, which is useful for global upgrading from let say normal track to maglev,
but nightmare if someone want to upgrade main line to higher speed while keeping parallel narrow gauge intact.

It is even possible now to have two different track type on one tile (if they are diagonal), but still not possible to upgrade one of them.

Therefore I propose a new, alternative tool (either additional button on track construction or different mode of existing button chosen by pull down menu).

This tool would work similar to semaphore placement (hope that existing code can be utilised):
with more precise control on mouse pointing, and what is more important, if ctrl is pressed and you drag mouse, all tiles along line would be converted,
until wye/crossing or different track type is spotted.

That is a great suggestion, I like it.

Actually, that is not true. Only for electric and non-electric it is done graphically, but it is just one track type on the tile.

Sounds a very interesting idea.

Just wondering .. in the code for level crossings we can get them to start to upgrade from a certain year to the modern types.

They don't all change at that year but slowly change over several years.

So maybe the tracks can be coded similar so that they start out slow speed and later will start to auto change to a higher speed .. be similar to the level crossings.

Not all the track will upgrade immediately but over several years this will take effect.

I believe he is talking about JGR'S patch pack, where this is possible

Yes, two types on one tile is only in JGR, I thought it was in trunk.

If talking about gradually upgrade - it is not a good idea , first of all, it would not look nice, such patchwork, secondly player would don't want to pay maintenace for higher track, if there are only slow trains here.
And software have no idea about which upgrade is desired.
Usually the most problems is during upgrade or electrification when some narrow gauges/pipes/wires existing nearby.
