Server issues

Post by UnfamousThomas »

Hello!

I have setup a dedicated server for myself and a friend. But he does not seem to be able to join. (It says the server is down).

It shows that he is not querying the server from the console and I can join. I have also added him as a special person who can access the port 3979.

We have also allowed both in and out both utc and dtp from his pc.

Running ubuntu.

Any ideas?

If you don't allow the OpenTTD server to access your server via UDP and TCP/IP on ports 3979 and 3978, then the server will be indicated offline by OpenTTD's server list and your friend can only access it by directly entering your IP address

Is this only server side or do I have to open the ports on my friends PC as well?

Just server-side. Client connections are outbound and generally don't need any special treatment, unless it's in a locked-down environment.
He's like, some kind of OpenTTD developer.

Your router (if any) to the server will also need to allow inbound connections and possibly will need to apply appropriate NAT forwarding

It is a dedicated server machine provided by OVH. So how would I do that? That is why it is so weird because I can connect but it is not in my network.

In that case there is no firewall on OVH side blocking it.

Right. Which is weird, we have even opened the ports in Windows firewall. (Only 3990) but I cannot imagine everyone has to go through this.
