Post by Simons Mith »

I thought I'd start a big Auz-themed game with lots of NewGRFs, and that means I'm really not sure where this bug has come from.

I created a dock, and then used station join to add a freight tram station to its corner. This drew my attention to a station name of Streaky Filter String: [Lorry icon]. The town name, 'Streaky' was in its normal colour, 'Filter string and the icon were in black. The station may have had that name before, and I only noticed it when I did the join, or it may have been the join that triggered it.

But, whatever, that's not a normal name for a station. I also have a station called Newmond TY with the 'TY' in a a tiny font. I don't think that's right either.

Finally, some minor typos which I /do/ know where they're from - the Industries NewGRF:

Construction Supplier says 'Buildings Material (All)' rather than Building Materials (All)'
Paper Mill and some other industries, 'paper', 'iron ore' and various other are lower case. The majority of goods seem to be upper case so these may be in error. Mountain Dairy has MILK in Caps. Shearing Sheds has WOOL in caps.
Sheep farm has a '.,' in the acceptance listing; delete stray full stop.
Lumber Yard lists 'Furniture factory' with a lower case second f.
Butchers and Milk Bars accept 'Liquid Merchanide'.
Livestock Sale Yards send cows and sheep to 'Abattors'
'Super market' is two words rather than one.

Can livestock be listed as 'head of livestock' rather than 'items'? Not sure if newGRFs can control the 'head' part.

Iron Ore Mines require 'Timber (crew)' [sic], probably because I'd turned passenger stockpiling for industries off.

Edit: OK, now I'm done trying to get all that down in a rush, the many NewGRFs of the Auz. collection look like a particularly fun game. Getting the hang of all those industry chains is going to take some time. I picked the slightly older random town name generator for its amusement value and it hasn't disappointed. 'Mt. Mountain' is my favorite so far.

I can't test your saved game as says Missing Files.

Had a look at the NewGRF Settings and you have some obsolete items.

Check you game options see what town name as you have 6 loaded. You only need one.?

The aussie_town_names-0.1 isn't mine, so not sure if the problem is in that one.

All my town names are those further down your list starting with NSW Railway.

You also have lots of double ups as well.

Some of the Object sets you have some obsolete versions mixed in with the later version.

You have AuzTrains, AuzTrainsNSW and nswtrainsv4-24.

You only need 1 of those. to start with nswtrainsv4 is Obsolete. If you want trains from every State of Australia .. load AuzTrains it also includes all the trains from the AuzTrainsNSW. If you just want trains from the State of NSW load AuzTrainsNSW.

The Industry set your using players reported several bugs with this and the newest version AuzInd6 is available in this forum on previous page. I think it is almost ready to be put on Bananas.

Also on previous page is AuzInd2019. It is a test Industry set .. will be a while before it be finished so play at own risk..

What you need to do is go to Check Online Contents and click and find each of the files you have load.

To the right in the Content Info displayed to the right .. you will see the words "THIS GRF IS OBSOLETE" if the file is out of date.

I will check the spelling errors you mentioned tomorrow as not got chance to do that today.

Cheers

Just a quick update to above post.

I quickly checked some of the spelling issues that "Simons Mith" mention and noticed some of those mistakes are in AuzInd6 and AizInd2019.

So hope tomorrow I can fix them and place the Update here.

Hope also next few days add AuzInd6 to Bananas and mark all the other Industry sets on bananas as Obsolete.

Cheers

I think I fixed all those spelling issues in AuzInd6.

Hope it don't muck up any saved games .. so make a back up of your save game before trying this updated version. Mayor change in it is the Railway Parcels Office. I changed the graphics so look better and suitable for any transport you use.

I will not be releasing it on Bananas due to some of the extensions I did to farms have problems when build on slopes. For instance the Agriculture Farm has the Pig Shed. Farms are designed to build in the hills as well as on flat land, and I can not code the farms properly so the Pig Sheds build on flat and the rest ok to build on slopes.

So I will make a AuzInd7 as soon as I can and remove the extras from the Farms. The Pig Sheds, (will make it a separate Industry). The sheep yard, cattle yard, grape Vines and Wheat fields in the other Industries I will remove these. You can replace them by using the objects from AuzFarmAndFencesObject set.

I need to make 2 Industry Sets AuzInd7 (for those who are not interested in building there own Industry) and AuzInd2019 (for those who like to build things in game).

An idea you can think of and let me know what you think.

At moment all 32 Cargo slots are full .. later there will be a OpenTTD available for 64 cargos, but until it is released I will keep working on the 32 cargos.

I probably could amalgamate the Engineering Supplies and Manufacturing Supplies into one and just call it Supplies. This will spare up one cargo slot.

Supplies can represent a lot .. Almost every Industry needs supplies of some description.

If I do this .. do you have a suggestion for a Cargo to fill the vacant slot?

Done some more to AuzInd2019 with the farms.
Farms-2.png
Farms-2.png (53 KiB) Viewed 4359 times
The 7 farms above are: From left to right starting top left corner.

Agriculture Farm .. house and Silos
Arable Farm .. House and shed
Cattle Station .. house and breeding stock
Dairy Farm .. house and herd of dairy cattle .. the pen is designed to connect to the Dairy Sheds.
Mixed Farm .. House and Sheep
Sheep Farm .. House and Sheep
Vineyard and Winery .. House and shed.

Also made some Canola and vegetable crops.
Canol and Vegetables-1.png
Canol and Vegetables-1.png (20.07 KiB) Viewed 4359 times
The vegetable I hope will represent all vegetable types.

I removed the Orchard and Piggery Farm since I now have a separate Piggery.

I thinking to replace that with either a Cotton or a Sugar Plantation.

Yesterday I went for a train ride out into the country and took some photo from the train of farms .. once I sort out the photos hope to make some of the building for the game. Two building I like to add is a shed to keep the farm machinery in and maybe chicken sheds. Wonder if could add a Chicken Farm to game but what would the cargos be. Maybe could be livestock to represent the live chickens being taken to the Abattoirs, and Eggs could be Food.

Some cargo ideas I having:

Possibility of a cargo called SEEDs. Crop farmers buy seed to grow crops.

And Farms that have Cattle maybe could accept GRAIN .. and be grain fed beef and the grain be used to feed the milking cows while they being milked.

Any way here the latest AuzInd2019 with those few changes. (If anyone like the source just ask as happy to provide it here for you to download).

How about a Farm shop cafe , pretty big business here in Scotland , as is I'm sure in the land of Oz . Nothing better than a visit to the local farm for your eggs, cheese, veg, homemade jams and breads , and a cup of tea and slice of cake .

Nice idea .. we do have similar here too .. usually down at the front gate near the main road they have a place to sell their produce. The Store could accept cargos from farms and produce FOOD.

Shall see what I can do .. be nice to have them build close to a farm, but not sure how code that yet.

Thanks for the idea

I can add that.

Thanks Andy for allowing me to use it.

I'll put it in AuzInd7 and AuzInd2019.

AuzInd7 is just an update to AuzInd6 with some alterations to cargos and graphics, especially the farms.

See if can have AuzInd7 ready for a trial run by the weekend.

Had a try at Machine Shop to make it a build your own industry.
Machine Shop-1.png

It will randomly choose one of the top 2 buildings to start with and then you add to it like I did.

Problem is no fences around the Industries .. so se f I can make some later

Once I get some more Industries did like this, you be able to add buildings belong to other industries. You don't have to use Machine Shop objects with machine Shop Industries .. you be able to add object from other Industries if like.

I added the Herding Co-Op from FIRS to both AuzInd7 and AuzInd2019 .. it like a small village. We have some like that here in Australia .. they sprout up where the work is or where they can make a living.

Hope tomorrow evening will have a set ready to be tested.

Good night all.

Re: Auztralian Industries (AuzInd)

Post by GarryG »

Been looking at Cargo distribution between Industries and whether could replace any cargos with something better.

Seeing what Industries don't really need and remove them.

Council Yard is one that I removed.

Been thinking about the cargo "Parcels" .. I don't want to remove it as I spent 24 years on railways handling Parcels and like to keep it in game (as that my idea of what I making is make it realism where I can), but having the same building accept and produce it is annoying.

So going to see what I can do about some Industries produce Parcels and Others accept it and most likely remove the Parcel Offices.

Thinking back when I with railways who sent parcels and received Parcels on passenger trains?

Remember a Bakery sending Cakes, Pies and Crumpets to country towns. There was a couple of Companies that supplied car parts and sent these as parcels.

Local Food Processor used to sent Processed Meats as parcels .. and used to get lots of fish, prawns (shrimp), fruit, vegetables arriving as parcels when it wasn't a full wagon load. Full wagon loads sent as goods by express freight trains.

Industries can accept 3 cargos and produce 2, but some I have only accept 1 or 2 and produce 1, so parcels might fill most of these gaps.

Was hoping to have AuzInd7 available by tonight so you can try, but not sure if I get it ready as I be making those parcel changes to see how it looks.

Cheers

https://postandparcel.info/5091/news/ov ... t-traffic/ , a old article from 2002, Do not remove parcells , they are the most vital service .Speaking of personal experience having lived in the far reaches of the Highlands of Scotland a parcel service is so vital it can be anything from a biro to a generator .Mail order companies , Amazon for example, can supply a multitude of items shipped out as parcells . Click and collect service where you purchase online and parcel delivered to a variety of outlets ,https://www.collectplus.co.uk/click-and-collect . Basically the parcel service is having a rebirth on the rails .

I will not remove it, just see if can use them in a better way.

As you mentioned a lot of products are sent by parcels.

See if I can get a test version ready to put here later tonight.

I been thinking of renaming "Manufacturing Supplies" to just "Supplies" .. this way some farms can receive Supplies as well.

Yep.

If took a package to a Post Office to send, it would be classes as Mail.

If took it to a Railway Station to send by Passenger Train it was called a Parcel.

Parcel technically usually 1 package or a small quantity of Goods.

I seen Motor Bikes, car engines, boxes seafoods, cakes, processed foods all sent as a parcel.

Here a sneak peak of AuzInd7.

Still under development stage as like to remove a few more Industries and replace them with Industrial Estates.

Been some changes in graphics to the Farm buildings as have new houses and barns.

Added the Herding Coop as mentioned early posts. Andythenorth sent me a photo of where he got his idea from .. it is actually a Village .. where they hunt and live off the land. Probably trade furs, fish and other things they make for things they need.

So I called mine Village. I have it accepting FRESH PRODUCE, MILK and PROCESSED FOODS and produces FOOD and GOODS. But wonder if I should change any of these.

Be great if any one can help test see if any changes could be made.

Almost midnight here, so I off to dream world .. ni ni
