Realistic Accident
In OTTD, accidents are too unrealistic.
For ex. When a train crashes another train, all the wagons will be burned out, and also turn around in different places , but in real world just 2 or 3 wagons will be destroyed. I know it's hard to code, but I still think it's too unrealistic.
Don't you think so too?

Re: Realistic Accident
No.
OpenTTD does not aim to simulate real world in a realistic way. It's a game rather than a realistic simulation.
The current accidents are more expressive graphically, more fun to watch as a game. It's also more serious, oops I lost a whole train! Let's not touch that button again.
The problem with realism is that you cannot apply it selectively.
So as counter-question, how is a collision to be handled realistically in OpenTTD then? We have two trains partly burned, then what? Trains can't drive anymore, and there are no other way to clear the tracks. How to resolve in a realistic way?

Re: Realistic Accident
Also, I think when trains collide with a car, the car will be exploded but the train will continue undamaged, isn't it strange?
Why trains will not be burned?

Re: Realistic Accident
So your improvement is that instead of automatically scrapping and clearing the tracks, you have to scrap mostly undamaged wagons manually?ir1n1o57 wrote:The train will partly burned, but the whole train will be cleared by bulldozer later
It may improve aesthetics in the collision, but I don't think it's an improvement in game play. Also, isn't it unrealistic that you scrap perfectly fine engine or wagons? Normally, a transport company would re-assemble the train in a depot, and use it for the remainder of its lifetime.
So it seems to me you fixed one unreality, and replaced it by an additional manual action, and added more unrealism one step further in the chain of events. With respect to realism the program remains equally broken if not worse. (Now, the train is completely burned, making it logical that it is entirely non-functional and scrapping is the only option. In your proposal, you have to scrap perfectly fine looking wagons without logical reason of any kind, it's not explainable to a user why he has to do that.)

Re: Realistic Accident
In order to do 90 degree turns OpenTTD wagons have a lot of joints which break easily and grease in them burns extremely well. So it's perfectly realistic that even a slightest collision destroys both trains.

Re: Realistic Accident
Why the train will turn around after collision with each other?
It is the most unrealistic point of the accident.

Re: Realistic Accident
It is better just burn out the train, like when the train is flooded.

Hello
Tschö, Auge
It's a game and especially in a game with a very low resolution of the items an event needs to be eye-catching. The movement of the derailed waggons is eye-catching, isn't it? If the answer is yes, the mission is accomplished!ir1n1o57 wrote:Why the train will turn around after collision with each other?

Re: Realistic Accident
You don't use a bulldozer to clear trains in real life. you use a crane attached to a truck or a rail flatcar, remove them one at a time, and either car them away off-size or you put them back on the rack. That's a lot of work for a game where you can clone trains at a click of a button.

Sometimes it Will happen. For example the CRH crash.kamnet wrote:You don't use a bulldozer to clear trains in real life.
How about removing crushed train manually using some way?

Why is manually better than automatically?
Also "some way" can't be implemented.

Re: Realistic Accident
Remove crushed train manually makes player more careful.
That's the reason.
Maybe should use bomb like remove buoy from canal.

Re: Realistic Accident
The current handling of accidents are far more punishing to me.
Early in the game, when the money is tight, having to remove crashed vehicles manually is tougher.
But later in the game, when main stations and main junctions are busier, or when airports and roads are busier, having the crashed vehicles in place for 6 months creates a SERIOUS traffic jam.
