If I sat across him I'd have strangled him for saying "mod" two dozen times.

I don't care, I can now show my kids a "let's play" YT video featuring my work, it's just about the only thing that they respect

I should tell him on Twitter that he's right though, it's "firs" like the fir tree ("furzz"), not "F.I.R.S". :D

You mean "mod" like a game mod? I find that refering to OpenTTD GRF's as "mods" is easier to say then NewGRF, especially when it comes to people who know little to nothing about OpenTTD like my sister.

I think it seems a bit condescending to act above people who call the mods in general anyway. In every other game in existence they're called mods, just because this game uses a fancy file name for it and might refer to them differently doesn't mean they're not mods lol

I didn't know it was a thing to not call them mods until recently when someone on Twitter got mouthy with me about it. I think its a weird cultural thing in this community haha.

I use "mod" as a generalised term for NewGRF, AIs and GameScripts.
So, flame those who say a NewGRF is no mod :p

Of mad, med, mid, mod and mud, I think mod is the most appropriate as it can be either modelling or modifying, both of which are quite descriptive of a NewGRF. The rest are maddening, meddling, middling and muddy, all things we do not want our NewGRFs to be. My congratulations to Andy for his excellence at fathership. Now we all know where he steals gets his brilliant ideas. 8)

Thanks for the update.

Besides, who cares about whether it's a mod, an addon, a hack, a whatever. What counts only, is, that this piece of work is simply great. 'nuff said 8)

Why was the rating manipulation feature removed? Really annoying.

Probably because station rating is about stations rather than industries.
You can make a newgrf that modifies station rating, and use it for any game.

Challenge accepted. No guarantee I can actually make it work though.

Well, to my shock and surprise, I have something that works (for coal, anyway). I'll have to add other cargos but I might have something for people to test fairly soon. I'll move this to a new thread.

Thanks for the great work :)
One suggestion: wouldn't it be nice to have a (large) map with different economies in it?
Moving from arctic towards temperate and tropic, just like the real world...
This would make it possible to use products like coffee, rubber or vehicles in other parts of the world as well..

This has indeed been suggested before, with people dreaming of a huge world map scenario. Currently it is not possible and I am unsure if there is anyone working on a patch to allow different climates on the same scenario.

You can always edit the source code and create a new economy that does that.

Then you could load Arctic climate and then also load OpenGFX+ Landscape to load temperate grass and trees, and then use your favorite NewObject sets to plant trees, farms, sand, etc. for Tropical climate parts.

There will be still a limit of 31/32 cargoes, now thinned over two or three climates, reducing the available cargo chains.
