Troubled Bridge Over Water

Post by Doenitz »

Can someone explain this graphical glitch?

I am using the UK roadset and 'Longer Girder, Steel, bridges' NewGRFs.
It seems like half of the bridge is using a different graphic from the other; other types of bridges suffer the same mangling.

Looks to me like you have two different bridge sets enabled and they are conflicting. I cant remember where ive seen the alternate cantilever bridge before.

Either that or youve changed bridge newgrf mid-game.

I have no bridge sets to speak of, and I had just started a new game, maybe it is UK roadset? Is that intended for original graphics?

Also play around with grfs, load road and bridge graphics before each other in Newgrf window... In game or just before You start new game

By chance are you also using Total Town Replacement Set, and have bridges enabled in it?

Otherwise, drop a message to FooBar, creator of Longer Girder, Steel Bridges.

I have encountered that exact bug/graphical glitch before. I believe it has to do with a roadset and TTRS conflicting. Can you post your NewGRF list?

This problem is caused by UK roads not being compatible with OpenGFX. Bridge sections have two sprites, one with the deck and the back of the bridge, and the overlay which is the closer edge of the bridge. The problem is that UKRoads only supplies bridge sprites for the original TTD graphics, and OpenGFX provides the overlays, causing the inconsistency you see.

It can also happen with any other baseset - here is a screenshot of zBase and UK Roads and you can see the problem. No other GRFs are loaded.

Solutions to this problem are either using the original TTD graphics, or using a new bridge set, such as TBRS (but I'm not sure if it has a UK roads edition, otherwise the bridge decks use default roads)

It would be a simple matter to create a NewGRF that replaces the bridge overlays with the default TTD ones, has anyone ever done this?

If You move this "longer girder steel bridge" grf after the Uk road set? Is the problem still there?

Quast65 drew UK Roadset graphics for Total Bridge Renewal, which replaces all the bridge sprites and doesn't have this problem.

Compiled version attached, because I can't find it anywhere on here.
