I thing good idea if I use original colour schemes when each carriage or rolling stock first entered service. Maybe once I master that and can get them up and running, look at making new colour schemes and allow company colours. NSW railways when I with them first had a maroon colour, than, not sure what order yet, but had Tuscan and what they called candy. I some locos (both diesel and steam) where painted green .. not sure if carriages were too. I'll start with the maroon for passenger vehicles and find a dirty black/grey colour for freight wagons . Pasenger vehicle got washed so ok make them look clean. But only time freight wagons had a wash when it rained.

I was hoping to be back home in 2 weeks to start these, but looks like my plans might change and be delayed a while. might have to search internet see what pictures I can find and see if I can start something.

I finding it difficult to concentrate on making these drawings. I fractured my skull many years ago and have some brain damage. Find it hard to concentrate on what I doing with this project. I will keep trying every so often, but no guarantees I get anywhere.

I think I stick to making scenario for now as images not so small. One day I hope to finish one.

Those who like Australian settings for their games. I made a NewGRF file town names that was or are served by railways in New South Wales.

Most taken from Railway Timetable books and Railway Local Appendix pre-1950. Names of Stations, Sidings and Crossing Loops are included.

I just release a Australian Industry Set called Auzind.

This is my first try at making a Industry set.

It might have bugs and other insects flying around in it. It has not had a major test yet.

It only a test beta version as it no where near finished.

Being a start of a weekend thought a good time for people to give it a test to see if I heading in the right direction.

Go to my scenario site at http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... =newcastle to download.

Cheers

If anyone is interested I just added a scenario to this site http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... 0#p1158290

It starts in 1930 and has all the railway towns from Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Lines from Newcastle to Hornsby, Werris Creek, Taree and many of the branch lines.

NSW Railway Station Town Names:

I previously done up a list of all Railways Stations in NSW and since been asked to separate into Divisions, so now there are 4 more:

Southern Division, Western Division, Northern Division, and Sydney Metropolitan.

If any one from other Australian States like to see stations from their State included, please PM me a list. Include all stations, not just those still in use, but also all those that have long since closed and don't exist any more.

I noticed that you say these are GPL v2 in some places, and public domain in other places. FYI, they are not the same thing. With GPL, you'll need to be ready to release your source code when requested. See this post for a quick overview of what different licenses bring to projects.

I not fully understand the licenses.

The source I originally learn how to compile town names and the Industry Sets came with GNU General Public License Version 2. So I thought right thing to do was make sure there was a copy of this licence included with what I release.
GarryG wrote:public domain in other places. FYI
No idea where I been saying that.

I have no objections for people to use and change what I done. Happy to provide the source and nml file if anyone want.

Re: Australian Train Set Stuff

Post by GarryG »

Hi all, the last scenario I did is way to large. I need to reduce it.

Maybe my scenarios should be same as what Train Controllers controlled many years ago. Some where based in Newcastle. One controlled from I think it was Wyong to Maitland. The other controlled Maitland to Taree and Werris Creek.
Another controller Taree to Brisbane and another Werris Creek to Wallangarra, Moree, Premer and branch lines.

So I intend to do the same.

For fun of the game, also making all the stations and sidings as there were in the 1930s and 40s. I will survey the land and mark where they lines went using Trackbed from Wired.

I am making a Industry Set mainly for rail and road usage. Making new industries that would be found at railway stations and siding such as Parcels Office (new cargo), Goods Shed, Loading bank, Wool Bank, Stock yards, Grain Silos, Fuel Depot. These will act like a industry providing and accepting cargo.

I"ve attached a copy of a railway diagram of Singleton in 1947, so get an idea what I mean.

Stock Siding will have the industry called Stock Yard to provide Livestock. Co-op dairy will have a Dairy, Armstrong Timeber Mill Siding will have a Sawmill, the shell and Vacuum Sidings are Fuel Depots. One will have the Fuel Depot Industry to accent Fuel and provide Farm Supplies (might add accept Chemicals and provide Supplies too), the other can have a different Industry such as a Builders Yard. The Platform will be a single line station for passengers, Mail and parcels. Goods Shed Industry will accept up to 3 different cargos and provide 2. Loading Bank is also a Industry accepting and producing cargo. The shunting Neck by placing a waypoint on this line makes it easier to turn trains around if need.

The Loco Sidings .. I like to make a Locomotive Depot as a industry to accept Coal and Petrol as if you are providing this to maintain your trains.

Some places also have per-way sidings to accept timber and ballast (stone) for track maintence and building.

Other stations (see Quirindi) have Grain Silos, Wool Dumps (to load wool and cotton), Cream Sheds where farmers would put their Milk to be collected by train and taken to a Dairy..

What you all think?

Will this make the game interesting or not? Anyone wanting to test the Industry Set I am working on at present welcome to do so .. just ask. It does not have the Locomotive Depot and per-way siding industries yet.

Here is a Beta version of Auzind_4. With a weekend about to start, hoping someone out there can test it and let me know of any ideas they have to improve it and if find some bugs, help me squash them.

The Industries I made in Version 3 to act like railway sidings will now build closer to town instead of middle of no where.

Still not ready to be released on Bananas as I think can be improved even more when I learn how to use some more coding.

Please read the readme file included.

I compiled a Excel Spreadsheet list of Australian and New Zealand Locomotives that are available for OpenTTD.

Some friends have suggested I put here as others might like it too. Find a 2013 and a 97-2003 version.

These taken from 2cc Trains in NML v5782, Generic Australian Rail Set (GARS) r06 and Australian Standard Gauge Set v0.1.1

Re: Australian Train Set Stuff

Hi all,

Still not completed the scenario as been side tracked. Been exploring some branch lines.

1 of these lines is the Industry Set Auzind. Version 4a is basically finished but thinking of adding 2 more industries to it for us railway buffs. 1 to go near Locomotive Depots .. want to make a Coal Bin and Fuel Tanks as a Industry for delivering of Coal and petrol. the other I want to make something suitable to act as a Per-Way (Ways & Works) siding .. here can deliver Gravel (ballast), timber (for sleepers) and Supplies (dog spikes and other things associated with maintaining a railway line and signals).

Also branch into making a Train Set. Thanks to Voyager One from the 2ccts set has giving me permission to use sprites from that set.

I done 4 locos so far .. the 3 diesels, 43, 44 and 45 class I used sprites from 2ccts set to design these. The 38 class steam is from a sprite set from Ausset .. I can not release the 38 class for others to use as I don't have permission to do so yet. I sent messages to both Coalroads Artist and BobDendry (formaly known as Lachie) to see if I can use their sprites from the Ausset.

Will keep you informed.

Sprites are looking great so far, except for one thing: the perspective is slightly off. You need to be drawing them from a more top-down angle, not side on. The way you can see this is how wide the roof is; your locomotives have 2 or 3 pixels of roof, while most sprites have at least 4 pixels (compare Voyager's 44 class to your 43 class)

Thanks for the tip .. when I look at it the 45 class also has a roof problem. Must have been the strong wind had here other night blew some roof off. I will see if can patch it.

Re: Australian Train Set Stuff

With the 45 class, try giving the cab section a 4 pixel roof, and the narrow hood section a 2 pixel roof.

Also, I've made a gif of a quick way to convert company-coloured sprites into real liveries (and vice versa). You'll need GIMP, and of course it only works if the actual livery pattern matches, but it will save a lot of time.

Use the select by colour tool to select all pixels of a particular company colour, then drag your preferred real colour to the image. Repeat with all shades of the company colour.

Again thank you kindly .. I been using Coral Paint 12 which I thought was reasonably easy , could change colours.

But when using GIMP is a lot easier and much quicker.

I going to have to get off computer for an hour or 2 to relax my eyes, then I be back at it.

Many many thank you for your help.
