Re: The Nations Game MkII
General Tsau stands in the newly taken port. A dozen USR soldiers stand infront of him, as he paces back and forth in the room. He picks up maps and documents, asking questions about each, with no answers from any of the men.
Eventual, the USR captain raises his voice:
USR captain: "You think you can stop us? sure you may have taken this port with your cowardly surprise attack but it wont matter. We are the USR! We have taken America, we are defeating the Confederates and we have held back the Chicagoan's, you think you can make a dint with your attempts!? Ha, if we can take on 2 attackers, imagine our power when our fellow socialists join our cause! 300,000 men, marching in this region! You think your rag tag group of men can take on an army that size!? They will take this land back and they will wipe out all those who threatened our land! When American is won, Aternia will fall for this! *He laughs to himself and the other men join*"
Tsau: "You think I fear death? You think you are the first men to see war? My nation was carved from the bodys of those before it! My Empire burnt down the cities of those who stood against it and raised a nation on their corpses! The rulers of my land have slain all who stood against them, and united the region to do the same. You think we brought 50,000 men to take America? *He drags and captain to his feet and shows him the window, revealing a mass garrison of troops* As we speak, over half a million Aternian troops gathered in your nation, with more waiting for my word! These men have cut down giants to be here, you think they would tremble at a dwarf!? Go ahead, rally your troops, but my men will march down this coast burning socialism to the ground, and when we knock on your leaders door, it'll be the face of death staring back!"
Captain: "You cant...you cant be serious!"
Tsau: "The smoke from this war will be seen for years to come, and the screams of the socialists will be heard in every nation, starting with this one"
General Tsau stabs the Captain in the chest, and throws the screaming Captain from the window, he then turns to 1 of his men
Tsau: "Send 2 of the USR soldiers back south, to inform them of our Arrival, and the terms of their surrender"
Officer: "And the USR prisoners?"
Tsau: "Hang 1 of them at every mile we travel, I want any army following us to get the right directions"
The Aternian Army marches south, using the captured train carts/lines to move supplies. So far the marching soldiers have only ventured across small towns/villages, most of which were quick to drop and surrender. The socialists soldiers found were added to the "sign post squad" (A death sentence). During the march any socialists propaganda was burnt and destroyed, and the confederacy flag raised upon the government buildings. With the current trail been so isolated (as its pretty much just a train line and a few towns on this part of the map) no large USR armies have been discovered, most likely due to the main fighting happening down south. With this advantage Aternia has been able to move rapidly down towards the Central USR controlled area, where it is expected that a larger number of battles will take place. Due to this, General Tsau has urged the forces behind to spend time re enforcing towns/bases encase the armies are pushed back. In an unrelated note, 1 town has gone silent (Along the route we met a heavily loyal USR town, which refused to return to confederacy rule. As an example, the town/its people were burnt to ash.)

Hey everyone.
Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the war, because other things have been happening. Me being sick, lots of after school tutorials, and a lot of other major things have totally screwed up my schedule for the game. I'll try to get an update up soon.
Thanks,

After several years of negotiation with locals, the lesser sunda island have been joining Nusantara, under the name of Nusa Tenggara kingdom. It's hoped that the joining of lesser sunda islands will bring more prosperity to Nusantara, and bring development to these islands.

"Beep Codes' Lines Started To Laid; New Techonology On Communication And Lighting Presented To The public
(sorry I don't present you the new morse for sanskrit script; turns out it's quite hard, nor I can do that anyway haha. Just assume that your standard morse codes can't be read by our telegraph technicians, unless they're one of our intels...)
After several years of fitting, adapting, and developing it to a new level (that's distinguishable from aterns, hehe), the Department of Communications in Nusantara has presented a new form of communication with faraway places : the beep lines. The infrastructure is bing installed across the islands, connecting important cities within an island (haven't done inter-island yet !).
But another thing catches the attention of public while this communication technology is presented : it uses light, but the lights are different.
several of the individual light bulbs shown; assume it hand-drawn
It consisted of a glass bulb, vacuumed, and a thin wire from carbon inside; the filament will glow up when electricity from a battery (or a generator) is flowed in it. It is said that this lighting, too, will be available to the public; hopefully replacing torch or arc lamps, which are deemed more dangerous.
To accompany all this advances in electrical usage, the government also announced that "public generator" will be created; people will pay the government for the amount of electricity they used.

At 65, Shi's still pretty enegetic. The administration of the Bengal tributaries isn't always easy, but surely better than settling down the Panda Hill natives. Good thing that Shi had been a prisoner there when he's young, and he respect their customs as much as possible.
Besides, Sacred Bamboo forests make good natural barriers.
One day, a few ragged people entered Shi's office. Shi recognized some of them belonged to the expedition team heading due West. Curiously, some similar looking, but definitely non-identical people stand beside the explorers.
"You've been away for *years*. For your information, our old King had passed the throne to Prince Yau a year ago."
"Hail the new King. By the way, it was a rough trip. We trekked hard. Finally we reached Lhasa, the Tibet capital, from the south."
"The Dalai Lama was pleased to see visitors. He ordered his people to give us a good feast, and led us to tour around."
Shi was impressed. "I have heard of Tibet as well. In fact, they used to listen to Chinese command a few hundred years ago, but recent development presented them an opportunity of independence."
"Well, the Tibetians led us to somewhere quite interesting..."
"Which is...?"
"A monastery housing the ossuary of the last Aternian Emperor, Hun."
"..."
"Since no Aternian was present there, the Lama asked a few envoys to lead -- and then follow -- us back here. They wished to see the Aternian Chairman."
"Presumably to return the late emperor's remains. Well, okay, I'd send a message to Aternia then."
"No need to ask permission from His Majesty first?"
"It'd be too slow. Notification is enough. Besides this is more like an Aternian matter than ours."
The explorers talked to the envoys in Tibetian.
"Well, they said they would split, one team to Aternia, and the other going to Canton. If His Majesty is to be notified, they wished to do it themselves."
"... so be it. Though you better split at Wuchang rather than here. They'll be impressed when they arrive."
"Okay."

The difficulties of establishing a railway from Kweilin to Changsha were alleviated by charitable locals. It's expected to be completed within a year.
Among the head of the good locals, Mao Yichang was young, wealthy and disciplinary. Unfortunately, he and his wife didn't manage to bear many healthy children. Their third but eldest surviving child, Zedong, was 3. They were currently expecting another.

Looks like the Federacy of Aegean Kingdoms still exists, and I'm back after however many months.
I need to look through at least some of the thread before doing anything major, but might as well get going.
[/offtopic]
Despite the inexorable march of technology and politics in the outside world, the FAK's bizarrely dysfunctional political system has rather limited progress within its borders. There are no rails, few surfaced roads, and even basic steam power is prohibited by a third of the 26 remaining states*. Foreign trade remains pitifully low, possibly because the central government - which has the remit to negotiate with foreign powers - retains its unworkable voting system. Since the states would rather not have decisions made for them anyway, no-one is inclined to fix that problem.
Now, however, some amount of foreign policy is unavoidable - with the growing population along the coastlines, domestic agricultural production is falling below that required for self-sufficiency. Since no manufactured goods and only limited raw materials are exported, the balance of trade is becoming unsustainable.
There are two alternative plans - to:
a) Obtain and copy modern technology, to increase agricultural production and produce exportable goods.
b) Obtain more land to farm in the time-honoured fashion of our grandparents, without introducing dangerous foreign influences.
Guess which.
[IC]
The Federacy of Aegean Kingdoms claims governance of the wilderness existing north of its borders, bounded by Arstotzka, the PUdRdlP**, the Danube River and an arbitrary line chosen for aesthetic purposes. Permitting the natives to meddle in political affairs would of course be absurd, and might well provoke suggestions of 'consistent laws' or let the central government usurp power from its rightful holders. As such, the new area will be partitioned entirely into equilateral triangles, being 700ft on each side, and said triangles will be assigned alternately to each state to be allocated as their governments see fit. All natives in the area will also be assigned in such a manner; those present in each triangle at the time of surveying will be recorded and their custody given to the appropriate state.
[OOC]
*There were 43 before, some of them merged; not all the mergers were between contiguous states. The Voluntary Empire has over 70 citizens now, but still none of them are willing to explain what it is.
**How do you abbreviate that!? Assuming that's right anyway, it seems a bit detached from the rest?

Nusantara can help the Federation of Aegean Kingdoms to catch it's left behind technologies. We can help you with explosion engines, steam ships, generator and light bulbs. We can also help you in farming and mining, although the conditions for farming might differ a lot.

-Somewhere in the southern capitol, the president of the Confederate Patriots, John S. Coltrane, can be seen sitting at a table with Trevor Phillips, who look like he is about to .-
Coltrane- So...Phillips........ you're telling me that this might just be a successful takeover?
Phillips- Yes sir. Our scouts have been watching the USR capitol for some time now, and it seems that the number of troops there has been steadily decreasing since this war started.
Coltrane- Have we heard from our undercover agent? He was supposed to be in the capitol watching and memorizing any advantages we may have against the capitol of the USR.
Phillips- Yes. Their defenses are weak, and they have no city walls to protect them. They have two forts that are lightly manned, and they also have no navy even remotely near their port, since all their navy is in the Caribbean.
Coltrane- Hmm..... sounds like we could try and turn this war around. If we take their capitol, and take their precious little president hostage, they may try to surrender. Or.....
Phillips- Or what sir?
Coltrane- Or....they could try and take back their capitol from us, and then they would be even more pissed off than before, which would lead to many more casualties. Let us try and take the capitol, even though it is a suicide mission, and then we'll see how it plays out after that.
Phillips- Sounds like a good plan. Also sir, if I may?
Coltrane- What is it? What has happened recently?
Phillips- We took back the southern tip of Florida, but what was strange was their almost no USR soldiers, and if there were any, they surrendered without question.
Coltrane- Hmm... it may be a ploy, or they probably were genuinely surrendering, since we had a much bigger force there.
Today-
The Confederate Patriots have taken the capitol of the USR, and have captured the president as well. They are now waiting for the response from the USR's armed forces, whether they surrender, or try and take back the USR capitol.

Don't forget about my troops that are in the USR that are better equipped than most Confederate troops.
They are not conscripts unlike most troops in the Confederate Army.
