Transport General HD [iOS]

Post by Muzzly »

Actually I was searching on for "Tram$port tycoon beta" images, but instead I found this one
Despite graphic, it seems to be very similar to ttd/openttd. I hope they haven't clone the code and made a commercial game.

I don't think they used OTTD code. Look at vehicles making turns for example. If they did clone the code, then they also put a lot of wish-list improvements in!

Looks kind of neat though, graphics-wise. I don't have a cell phone or tablet of any variety, so won't be able to try it out.

I'd say that's almost totally similiar to Chris Sawyer's / Origin8 new TTD. I hope they don't clone this one, totally. We're pain for them already, hope nobody else adds to the list.

No, the 'new' one is still using graphics very similar to the original lomo. This is very different.

This is an image used in the advertisement of the new lomo pretending to be TT.

I still think there should be trains in their screenshots.

Hi all

Considering this video
http://youtu.be/TYAmBGTPHnQ

The road builder (expanding) looks quite familiar. Ship Depots. Do they have added locks? Doesn't seem so, but they have buoys from the UI.
As the objects are 3D, the rendering path (bounding boxs) and curves are surly not the same,
so behaviour of vehicles are different.

From Screenshot 4 it seems to be bit like Playstation Transport Tycoon
http://appshopper.com/games/transport-general

I wonder if a code analysis would reveal O|TTD|Patch concepts...

Would be interesting, if anyone can do it and has the time, might reveal some dubious code origins too.

Have you looked at recent pictures of the new TTD ? The UI looked somewhat similiar to me, as well as the mechanism (turns, plane handling etc. , probably expect trains.)

Anyway, I agree that the graphics looks like OGFX, UK Roads (and several other well-know NewGRFs) also Simutrans pak64 (well, the airports). Which one isn't GPL-licensed ?

Looks like an OpenTTD with a few Locomotion features.

The tiles has the shape of Locomotion tiles. Also, the planes rotates smoothly.

I hope that they have released the sourcecode.

I don't know if they used the OTTD code (although seems very very similar), but looks very good. I hope they release an Android version...

Nah, I'd prefer to use the original thing over Android.

The touch seems to have some well-made "offsets", it seems like the problem between our brain, our hand, and the device (it's not really intended).

Anyway, the last time I played it it's fine for me.

TTDG is a lot of fun! I've just played it on my iPad, it's very much like TT. I already like it much better than TTM (the new TT for Mobile devices), to be honest. The controls are just so much better than they used to be in Locomotion. Here's an impression:

@Roman
Thank you for posting new images. It seems to be a 3D game, with possibility to change view angle to nearly-isometric degree.

It is 3D, but the default view is the same as in TT (isometric). 95% of the time will be spent in the usual isometric perspective, I guess. It's just that you can follow a vehicle through the 3D world, and zoom out to a minimap-like top-down view in 3D.

I would think they reused some OpenTTD code, since bridge building, terraforming, grid and even road layout look so similar. With GPL it actually does not matter how much code you are using. Even a single line would require them to release the source too.
I like to look at great maps and see how things flow. A little like a finished model railway, but it is evolving and actually never finished. http://www.simutrans.com

And to credit the original author. At least, if it can't be open-sourced.
Anyway, isn't Apple's AppStore is incompatible with GPL-licensed things ?
