Photo Of The Month - July 2013 Entries

Post by Geo Ghost »

Hey all.

The new theme is now available so here's the entry topic for July :D
(Pending wiki page. Shall put that together tomorrow)

The theme for this month is Compromises and Oddities
Set by last months winner, supermop.
"The idea being that the subject shows a different or non standard approach to a transit problem brought on by unique site or circumstances. Whether it is an oddity of equipment, infrastructure, usage, or anything else is for the entrant to determine. Ultimately this is up to the voters, but I'd love to see examples rewarded for how well they present and convey the subject rather than purely on its sheer strangeness!"

An interesting and challenging one! Looking forward to seeing how this one pans out :)

Encase you're new, or need a refresh...
Rules can be found Here.
Please read and familiarise yourselves with them if you haven't before.
Previous winners can also be found on that page.

How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
I like to keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 0713POTM_DaveW.jpg / 0713POTM_orudge.jpg / 0713POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 0713POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea ;)

If you upload to the wiki with a different format, I will have to re-upload the image again with the right name. Sorry to be picky, but I want to keep all the entries organised and in the same manner.

At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available till the 7th of each month (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month. Then we repeat from there. Simple. :D

If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.

Best of luck everyone!

Great theme, sound pretty much unique. I have a decent idea I've never used, the question is whether I'll manage to find time before going on holidays ;)

This one? It was in the front-page of Kompas (I think).

Just had enough of everyone complimenting some photos but not others before voting - in my not-very-humble opinion, its essentially saying "that is where my vote is going" before voting opens and defeats the point. Once voting opens - sure, compliment away - but prior to, I don't think its a fair "competition", even as a fun game, to cast your vote before all the entries are received.

Does that make sense?

It does IMO. Besides, too many (pointless) posts in the thread make browsing through it a little clumsy when you're trying to focus just on the photos.

When I just about to vote, I'll just close this forum, then stare at the photographs over the wiki. Doesn't even considering the comments by the uploader, really.

Essentially and honestly - I fully agree with Andel.

Anyway, I'll start this month's entry run... Sorry for the poor quality of the picture, I've taken it from my car with my cell phone.

It's one of those occasions when half my town's centre gets stuck in traffic because one out of two major east-to-west arteries in the city gets occupied by a container train, usually in the middle of a working day (of course)... :P Let me just say that this red-signal streak streches about 4-5kms between the container ship terminal and the main train station (red line on the city map), effectively cutting the town in half in that part. And it's very pleasing to drive your car beside a nice 500+ ton train going at 30km/h in opposite direction with nothing but 1-2 metres of thin air between the two of you.

Just to clarify, members are requested not to post things which may influence voting. Saying "So and so has the best photo" or "I am voting for this person because..." is not permitted. Such comments may be removed or modified without notice.

However, there are no problems with other members complimenting peoples work. Simply saying things like "Nice photo" or "Impressive stuff!" etc, I see no issue with.

If anyone disagrees with this, please do contact me. It's what i'm here for :) It's your competition. If you're not happy about something, have concerns, or suggestions... simply PM, message, email, or even facebook me. I will always listen and respond, even if it isn't right away.

I'll do my best to improve the competition and the experience for members where and if I can :D

All the best!

No. People aren't posting their photos to receive critique.

Precisely.

Bare in mind, some may not want feedback on their photos.

I wouldn't regard the subject as "easy" mind you...

Or at least in my mind anyway.
