Recording TT2013

I am wondering, what are some good ways to record on mobile? Or perhaps this game will be able to be emulated?

Thinking of making a lets play series, or more of a tips and tricks series for TT2013, modeled around the success of my tutorial series of openttd.

I have an old DroidX that could be rooted, so that is also an option.

You can emulate running .apks on Windows on an emulator. Either way you can also emulates Android OS runs on your PC, so probably you'd do that. AFAIK until today, I don't know of any apps that can record the screens of Android, with or without root. Some apps provide you a way to manage your device from PC, including seeing it's current screen activity, but I don't know whether the app also provice recordings. An example of this is AirDroid - no root needed.

The mentioned emulators are in one if the thread in this subforum.

Anyway, you can always search on [enter fhe search engine name] or over http://forum.xda-developers.com .

There aren't really any Android screen recorders (that i've seen) that will let you record your tablet/mobile screen at full quality / 30fps. Due to the way that Android works (it writes directly to the framebuffer, unlike most modern OSes) it can be quite difficult to capture the screen unless you have special hardware to do so. Your best bet by far will be to emulate it on PC using Bluestacks or Genymotion (http://www.genymotion.com/) and record that like you normally would with FRAPS or whatever.

So I buy the app on the market and transfer it to my PC or something? How does that work?

Buy it, download the .apk, transfer .apk to computer, something like that. May or may not require rooting your device.

Perhaps, the only real way to know is to try it out, of course.

There's a high probability that you'd be able to see the .apk if your device is rooted. Using a deodexed ROM, this would also includes all data made by the application. You might want to try that...

EDIT : or alternatively you can try these methods. Of course it requires root...

I just tried it with Angry birds with APK extractor and genymotion and it works just fine, frame rate is from 20-40, unplayable uncompressed, but once you compress it into .mov its just fine.

I'd post a link to the video, but we all know what would happen. You can find my channel below VVVV

Wait, apk extractor doesn't need root ? Sounds awfully silly...

No no no, I need to root to use a screen recorder.

Finding a root is proving difficult.

Edit: I was able to download it with Genymotion after I bought it on the play store, but it wont download the 100mb data package.

APK extractor says the TransportTycoon APK is 11.6MB, while from the application manager via settings it is...

Total --- 188MB
App --- 24MB
USB storage app -- 123MB
Data --- 40MB (that's the size of one save?)
SD card --- 864 KB

Yet from Genymotion it reads as...

Total --- 24.13MB
App --- 24.12MB
USB storage app -- 0MB
Data --- 4KB
SD card --- 0 KB

Is my emulated device just missing an SD card or something?

And yes you can register emulated devices as a device you own on the play store.

Edit 2:

Genymotion checking directly after install..

Total --- 147MB
App --- 24.12MB
USB storage app -- 123MB
Data --- 4KB
SD card --- 0 KB

For some reason uninstalling it and reinstalling it made it download the entire game..

Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1: When I try to run the game it tries to load then crashes promptly.
Galaxy S4 HTC One Xperia Z - 4.2.2 - Goes to gray screen.

Im so close to being able to spam the forums with.. I mean record TT2013! :D

EDIT 3: Tried installing the latest SDK's 4.0.0+, still just going to a gray screen.

So I just spent an hour trying to get Bluestacks to work.

1. It keeps saying my device isnt compatible, yet i can download it on my phone
2. It wont let me cloud connect, which would allow me to push my apps from my phone to my computer.

They really didnt make this game very recording friendly

FYI, .apks are just a version of a .zip / rar / tar file : this can be proven by using WinRAR or WinZIP, or other similiar application to open them. At least I can see their guts using Root Browser...

This is the installer, not the whole installation. Either that or APK extractor doesn't work well. I'd use ES File Explorer, using their "backup" option.

On your device ? Then that's all.

They haven't downloaded the "junk", ie. the whole thing.

That's teh correct installation. Good Job !

What do you mean by them ? ROMs ? Also, the latest Google's SDK would be API level 18 (4.3), but I don't quite get what you mean, maybe AOSP ?

Probably due to the facts that Google is protecting paid apps from things like this. I'm not sure through...

Have you tried to install them on Genymotion via ADB ? Altough I do know how "dirty" it's going to be...

You dont even need ADB to install on genymotion, it does it directly from the app store.

ADB does work though.

It would make sense that google is prohibiting Bluestacks, but wtf I paid for the damn app, I should be able to use it wherever i want.

We mustn't give up, there must be SOME way to record this blasted game.

Well, then recording them as you plays it on an Android emulator... Either that or you can try to de-assemble your phone and get the damned screen out.

(i never recommend it i never recommend it i never recommend iiit)

A display does not a smart phone make.
A smart phone would intuitively know my preferences, then it would ring up the App Store, order my favourite game, install it, play it and finally ring me up to let me know whether I lose or win. Now that's a smart phone. :D
