Names of Texas

The stars at night are big and bright... deep in the heart of Texas!

I wanted names from here so I wound up compiling all[1] the names of all cities, towns, unincorporated areas and "Census Designated Places" off the wikipedia. I have over 3000 names and I'm not sure that I've missed even one place where people live here. If I'm mistaken, please let me know and I'll fix it.

I've included a Perl script that can take any text file that is a list of names for input and it will output an nml for the names. Please remember to change the grfid if you reuse this.

Also, I've built the source with standard *nix tools and each county is in a separate text file in the "bycounty" directory. You can remove any or all of those files and/or add your own to get an easy start to adding names for your state or region. (I may wind up releasing a "Names of East Texas" but we'll see.)
