PaulC's New Town Names

This is the all-new release thread for my various town name projects. I have a few older grfs which I hope to eventually update and post here, but for now they can still be found in the old development thread and I'm mostly going to focus on some new stuff.

All town name sets will use real place names and some will be quite modest in size - no fancy random name generators that give you a billion different combinations! Expect a few quirky and unusual sets with some tongue-twisting town names, some grf's you never knew you needed and possibly some you don't... 8)

Compatibility
As of 2017, any new releases will be for OpenTTD only. Older town name grfs should work just fine in either OpenTTD or TTDPatch, but see also this next bit...

Font characters
All font characters used in these grfs are included in OpenTTD since 1.2.0 or r23582, and in OpenGFX since 0.4.0. If you're using older versions of these then a few characters will be missing in some grfs. If you're using any other fonts besides those in the base set then you're on your own.

There is currently no support for the extra font characters in TTDPatch, but if anyone needs it then let me know and I'll code something. Maybe. Or you can try OpenGFX 0.4 for TTDPatch.

Translations
Translations will be most welcome if anyone feels like doing them, and I'll post the english.lng file with each grf just in case. There's not much to translate, just the grf description and the menu name really.

Licence
Unless stated otherwise, all grfs posted in this topic are licensed GPL v2 (if released 2017 or later) or CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 (if posted 2012 or earlier).

Problems, feedback, suggestions, general comments?
Post 'em in this topic.

Hawai'ian Town Names v1.0

Aloha! This set contains 164 place names from Hawai'i, using proper Hawai'ian spelling to make it a bit more interesting. :)

Greenlandic Town Names v1.0

Greenlandic Town Names v1.0

A set of 85 place names from Greenland. It may be a huge place, but that's pretty much all there is...

Maltese Town Names v1.0

Maltese Town Names v1.0

This set contains 76 place names from the islands of Malta. Well, it's not a very big place you know...

Azerbaijani Town Names v1.0

Belgian Town Names v2.0

An update to an old grf that was originally released here... v2.0 is mostly based on a list of Belgian municipalities and contains three seperate sets, so you can choose from a set of 313 place names (in Dutch) from the Flanders Region, 253 place names (in French) from the Wallonia Region, or a combined national set of 593 place names which also includes those municipalities from the Brussels Capital Region and the German-speaking community.

Sami Town Names v1.0

Sami Town Names v1.0

Something a bit different... This set contains 160 place names from Sápmi (or Lapland if you prefer); about half of these places are in Norway, the rest in Sweden, Finland and Russia, and all names are in the Northern Sami language of the indigenous population.

Mind doing some Roman names? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:R ... by_country)
I'm sort-of-working on a Latin translation of OpenTTD, which it would suit very well.

Mongolian Town Names v1.1

All new town name set based on a list of Mongolian districts, includes 275 place names in either Latin or Cyrillic script.

Qubecois Town Names v1.0

A larger set of 1,211 place names from the Canadian province of Quebec. Names include municipalities, unorganised territories and aboriginal local municipal units. A few longer names (e.g. Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague-du-Cap-Tourmente) had to be left out because OpenTTD has a 31 character limit on town names.

East Prussian Town Names v1.0

A set of 650 historical German place names, mostly based on the former province of East Prussia. I originally coded this about six years ago when I was reading up on the history of this region.

The Latin Town Names were done by oberhümer rather than me so I don't know what source was used for the list. Aquilia in Vestinis is the Latin name for L'Aquila in Italy, have a look at List of Latin place names in Italy and Malta on Wikipedia for example. Hope that answers your question.

Thanks but why isn't it oberhumer who writes himself the topic ? Can modify your messages so we can see the authors of the name packs ?
Thanks

Eh, I don't know why he chose to post his grf in my topic rather than create his own (not that I mind). All of the others in this topic are by me. It's all clearly stated in the top post.
