[OTTD] Russian Town Names in Cyrillic and Latin

Hello everybody!
I'd like to present NewGRF file with Russian town names. It includes Cyrillic and Latin names.

After restarting game in "Game Options" menu, in "Town names" list there will be "(undefined string)", and no "Russian (Cyrillic)" and "Russian (Latin)" options.
If you start new game everything will be OK and town names will be applied. But if you want to see these options you must go to "NewGRF Settings" menu and just press "Apply changes" there.
It's an OpenTTD bug.

You are welcome to download and comment! Thanks!
[10.06.2011]
Now available in bananas too!
[10.02.2012] Version 4
Town names taken from GeoNames geographical database (
http://www.geonames.org/).
Now contains over three thousands of Russian toponyms, both in Cyrillic and Latin!
[11.01.2014] Version 5
Now there are three options:
* Real Russian town names, Cyrillic
* Real and generated Russian town names, Cyrillic
* Real Russian town names, Latin

Nice one
The 'known bug' though is not a bug of your NewGRF but one within OpenTTD. Thus I'm not sure it should be communicated as bug of this NewGRF.

Thanks for this work and welcome on forum
It seems to me that there is no cyrillic translations for this town names
Code: Select all
text("Alekseevka", 1),
text("Abaza", 1),
text("Abakan", 1),
text("Abdulino", 1),
text("Abinsk", 1),
text("Agidel'", 1),
text("Agryz", 1),
text("Adygejjsk", 1),
text("Aznakaevo", 1),
text("Azov", 1),
text("Ak-Dovurak", 1),
text("Aksajj", 1),
text("Alagir", 1),
text("Alapaevsk", 1),
text("Alatyr'", 1),
And also... Do you consider the possibility of including the random names generator? Such as
here. With the ability to select each of the lists via parameter.
And why this is still not in bananas

In that case (which I consider a very nice addition), you might want to have a look at the
code I used in my
GermanTownNames next door

It'd be better if you separate known names of big cities for "megapolises" in TTD and other... Because it's strange to have something like "Новосысоевка" as capital and "Самара" as small village

I think it's not possible, using NML right now.
I'm prod to present version 5 of Russian Town Names.
Now there are three options:
* Real Russian town names, Cyrillic
* Real and generated Russian town names, Cyrillic
* Real Russian town names, Latin
Generated names are two-word names concatenated from real toponym parts. Some combinations are weird, but it's a matter of dictionary optimization.
Generated names used in 1 to 3 proportion.
Waiting for feedback, gonna post to bananas tonight.
