if you use an image editing program like GIMP it's very manageable :P
May the force be with you.

Let me just conclude the previous game:

The USS Commodore contacts an alien ship, they are part of an intergalactic space empire. It turns out that they have been actively hiding themselves from us: the spatial anomalies around the blue gas giant were caused by a cloaked alien space station, and the crews of the UES Endeavour and the USS Ibex are perfectly fine, they had just been captured by the aliens after they had seen the aliens. The aliens have decided that humanity has come far enough to be a functioning member of the greater intergalactic society. The whole world gets absorbed into the Shikanese Intergalactic Space Empire, and we all live happily ever after. THE END.

So anyway, I don't mind the starting year, I would even have suggested starting in the year zero, to simulate ancient societies and stuff. However there seems to be some conflict over what map to use - the large map does allow for much more detail, but it seems cumbersome. I suppose it can't hurt to give it a try...
Also, I will start a new topic, just to see if it becomes accepted. This will allow me to create polls so that we can vote on things such as teh map issue.

ATTENTION:
I have started a new thread. It can be found here.

So where do we play, here or on the new thread? Are those two separate games?

Nope, we've restarted.

EDIT: i will also go against the new maps. I will use the old one regardless of what anybody else says.

REVERT to old map, or have another restart.
Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that

Pesonally, I have nothing against the old "small" map, it has served us well.

I can see what's coming... Two separate map games; this one continues using the old map, while the other one on the thread I started will use the large map. I would play in both, not as in-depth as have with this last game, but it might provide some alternate-universe fun :P

Come on, let's continue with the large map. Any MsPaint can open it easily!

EDIT: Now comes the part when I eat my words. The map is a little bit exagerated. How about this one?

Hmm, the edges have been blurred by resizing. They weren't completely solid to begin with, which would always result in grey/white edges with prograbs that don't have colour similarity/tolerance i.e. MS Paint. While the ideal solution would be a vector image, that would cause problems with editing, as you would have to use Inkscape and people may not be able to use it, so a raster map is preferred.
If you look on the first page of this very thread, you can see that the OP posted an entirely different map to the one we have been using. It is much larger (but not nearly as larrge as rdrdrdrd's map) and it has rivers and nice solid lines. I have added it to the poll on my thread, and I propose that we use it.
