Mornington Crescent

Post by Circeus »

Dunno if the game is usually played around here. In any case, it seems incredibly appropriate, hence I'll one out. Please keep to the 1978 restricted Brentford International rules (I really can't stand the Reverse Eugene Gambit).

And I'll start with De La Savane, Montreal. Maybe not very inspired, but hey, I like the ascending yellow state play.

I won't allow games that actually have no rules at all. :P

I don't personally see why Mornington Crescent shouldn't be allowed though. It does seem quite appropriate for here, really. For those "in the know" at least, it can be quite fun.

Information on the game, for those who don't know it. ;)

I'll leave it for jonty to unlock this if he sees fit.

I can't really see how it would work. The radio broadcasts are obviously scripted beforehand, just like most of these supposedly spontaneous comedy shows nowadays:- but I'll wash my hands of it, and see what happens. :P

Eh, the radio shows have been running for many many years, they did live tours and suchlike, I imagine a good few of them were probably not "scripted" in the manner you say. If anything, I've seen successful MC threads on various other forums, and they're not "scripted." :P

Not having heard of the game prior to the posting here I did a bit of wikipedia research and found it to be a bit fascinating if you take it in the manner in which it was intended. That is in such a way that you must quote the rule set you are invoking along with your actual entry. Something to the effect of:

Bleeker Street North using variation 12.91b of the 1923 Algonquin Round Table.

That would be fine, except for the fact that, as far as I can tell, there is no London Underground station called that. ;)

Ah well, I'll have a go too then, although I don't like games that only you British people who know all the London Underground station can play.

Under rule 23 Ammendum 4 it is allowed to call non London Underground stations.

I thus call St. Pancrass station.

@ orudge: Very true, but variation 12.91b of the 1923 Algonquin Round Table rule set allows for non London Underground stations or, more specifically, underground, or subway stations, found in New York City at any given historical period; hence Bleeker Street North.

Next entry:
Charing Cross Station using rule 221b of The Silver Blaze rule set.

Hmm... If we keep within the spirit of the game then challenging someone's use of a rule could be just as much fun as using the rule itself when the challenged person has to come up with an explanation of their rule usage using real world references. Of course this would mean that your original rule use would have to have some basic tie to reality, even though that tie could remain meaningless to everyone else until you are asked to explain it. I may be over complicating things as usual.

As we're obviously eligible to list Swedish metro stations as well (it really is obvious):

Chalfont. Is it allowed to have Chalfont without Lamiter?

Using the late year 1976 version of the Cotton Club and Apollo rules my next entry would be 125th Street including the Metro North station.

When refering to the Stockholm live set of 2005, you will note than Mr. Atci introduced a new set of rules. Thus, I will not have to provide an entry whatsoever

Checking the 1978 rulebook, such a move is only allowed early mornings and late evenings to allow transfer to the Piccadilly Line. Unless of course you were approaching from the general vicinity of Richmond.

Most interesting. Chrill plays the Stockholm Syndrome Gambit while Amecheer and JameiLei opt for a more traditional, dare I say, original intention, type of approach. Keeping all of that in mind my decision is to use the 1958 Sorbonne Deluxe Edition v2112.9 so that my next entry could only be the multi-line Chatelet station complex in Paris.

As Nite Owl mistakingly referred to the Stockholm Syndrome Gambit, he should only be eligible to refer to Austrian bus stops unless he had referred to the aforementioned deluxe edition. You lucky sod..

As Paul Rodgers plays with Queen nowadays instead of the original band member, I am forced to play along the rules written by Sir Elton John on the back of his 1995 album "Made in England" and will have to give you the Charing Cross tube station
