[OTTD] Scenario: Europe 4096 x 4096 by Pontec
[OTTD] Scenario: Europe 4096 x 4096 by Pontec
Hi there,
the very first post. I've been following the forum for years and played TT since the mid 90's.
The Europe Scenario is based on a European Hightmap (found in the forum somewhere), the result cleaned, rivers and lakes added and cities placed, but not all of them at the perfect location. Some large cities aren't in the game (as they are too close to another city), some cities added together and some smaller cities are in the game for other reasons. Names are in the local language where possible, Odessa has an “s” too much. Parts of Morocco, Algeria and Tunis is also on the map.
Industries are placed historically according to what info has been available to me and reflects the decades before 1914, but sometimes tweaked to get a better spread. Bauxite is representing all forms of mined minerals not included in the game. As there is almost no oil in Europe, oil fields representing the large import oil fields are present in the right direction. Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova only have a few cities and industries. Iceland is over-industrialised.
JGR's Patch pack, FIRS; Swiss, Swedish and UK trains
The Scenarios includes:
703 cities
534 Industries
1020 Farms (incl Fishing grounds and Forests)
317 Mines
697 Shops and hotels
The 1844 Scenario has in general low production (often 50%) and the 1902 Scenario has in general 100%.
Notes on resources,
Coal – slightly more mines than accepting industries
Iron ore – 2 mines per accepting industry
Engineering Supplies – 7 mines per producing industry
Farming supplies – 14 farms per producing industry

This map looks like it could be quite the challenge to make money on, what with the small size of the towns! May have to have a good look at this when I get chance to!

I've got the latest stable version (1.6.1) but it's saying that the scenario's made with a newer version. What gives?

Some of the NewGRFs are missing from BaNaNaS. Where can I get them? Specifically NewShips, NewStations, Canadian Stations, Rivers, and Stolen Trees.
Re: [OTTD] Scenario: Europe 4096 x 4096 by Pontec
Is there any plans for a version adapted to 1.6.1?

Links where you can find them:Ivir Baggins wrote:Some of the NewGRFs are missing from BaNaNaS. Where can I get them? Specifically NewShips, NewStations, Canadian Stations, Rivers, and Stolen Trees.

One more thing - there's actually quite a lot of oil under Europe, especially at this time. Galicia (i.e. southern Poland) was a major area of oil production (also home of the first modern oil refinery) along with Romania, oil shale extraction was a major industry in Scotland and Estonia, and there's also oil extraction going on even today in Austria, the Netherlands, Hungary, Albania, to name just a few. So for the next version there's several plausible places to put oil wells that'd also help with gameplay.

You are absolutely correct, but Europe (west of Russia) was a net importer of oil before 1914. The small oil fields in S-E Poland and in W Hungary are in the game as well as the larger ones in Romania. The Oil shale in Narva, Estonia (that has been used for oil production but also for electric production) is represented by a coal mine. In 1914, the US produced 65%, Russia (borders after WWI) 16%, Mexico 6%, Romania (borders after WWI) 3,1%, Dutch East India 2,8%, Poland (borders after WWI) 1,6% and Persia 0,7% of the world's crude (All other countries 4% together)Ivir Baggins wrote:One more thing - there's actually quite a lot of oil under Europe, especially at this time. The Venezuelan oil fields were tricky as they went into production in 1914 (and the game resources and industry is supposed to be 1914 and the decades before), same with Persia (where the production really took off during WWI).

I have this map, only lacks the cities and rivers.
It has high mountains and great relief to play.
If someone wants to complete the cities and rivers, it is welcome.
It works with patch JGR's
