[OTTD] South Eastern Australia
Posted: 21 Sep 2015 00:34
Hi There,
I've been playing Transport Tycoon and OpenTTD since the DOS days and thought I would try my hand at putting back into the community that has given me hours (days!!) of fun over the years.
Using some of the many threads available around these forums, I have created a new heightmap of the South Eastern corner of Australia. North to Tin Can Bay, south to Bass Strait, east to Cape Byron and west across to Port Augusta and Whyalla. It's a fairly large map, 2048 * 2048 tiles, starting in 1950.
To play, it requires one of the post 1.5 series nightlies. (Greater than 1.5.2).
I have tried to keep the NewGRF content to as short a list as possible, but the opportunity to use the FIRS v2 alphas was too good to pass up!
The other NewGRF files needed, along with the builds I used:
2cc Trains in NML v5732
2CC Tram Set 0.0.1-beta1
Aussie Town Names
2cc Bus Set
av8 Aviators Aircraft Set
Squid Ate FISH 2.0.2
Better bridges parameters
FIRS Industry Replacement Set 2.0.0-alpha-5
GRVTS v1.4 32bpp
I have used various sources to compile the data:
CGIAR-CSI SRTM 90m Digital Elevation Data http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/
Australian Cities List from Geonames http://www.geonames.org/
Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Geofabric http://www.bom.gov.au/water/geofabric/
And a bit of my own local knowledge of various areas! http://127.0.0.1/
The whole scenario isn't 100% complete yet, I'm still working on some of the industry placements, there's a lot to do with the FIRS set.
I'm keen to see if anyone has any feedback and to see if it's worth pursuing further or if I should just crawl back into my box!
Will do my best to answer any queries through the main thead here at this stage and will also upload to BaNaNaS.
Tim
