Are you sure you have permission to write to the directory in which you are attempting to save?
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Exactly what I said. Do you have write permissions? Are you allowed to create and/or modify files in that folder?

Right click the folder then go to properties(In vista click on the security tab and you will have to be admin for this, you will see a list of items you are allowed to do, if writing to the folder has a deny checked, go to advanced selecte admin from the list, then edit, if another list comes up do that again and uncheck deny. This may not be the case.. You may also have a very full game directory... If you have too many games in the folder it will not allow you to save, if you do, move some to another directory or folder or something, then you should be able to save.

Like furdude said, because of the way TTD names savegames, you can't save more than 100 games in the one directory. I think that's the most likely problem.

How many saves do you have? I have a feeling that is the problem.. Most computers start out with you having access to folders.. but if you don't and you have seen the security tab from there you will see all of what is allowed in that folder, what you can do. If writing to that folder has a check under the deny column, then you aren't allowed. if you are being denied writing access, then follow what I said, I gave instructions on how to uncheck the deny. Vista is more then likely what you are using(if you are unfamiliar with computers Vista is an operating system(OS))

I think that question has been asked at least twice now. Could we convince you to consider answering it?

Right click the folder then go to properties click on the security tab at the top there should be four tabs, the third one from the left is the one. You will have to be admin for this, you will see a list of items you are allowed to do, if writing to the folder has a deny checked, go to advanced select admin from the list, then edit, if another list comes up do that again and uncheck deny. This may not be the case..
Vista is an operating system(what the computer is running) when you start the computer it tells you what it is.. I'm not sure I'm trying to find how to do it in XP(the prior Operating System)

On the bottom of the General tab, there are two check boxes, called Read-Only and Hidden.

Please make sure that the Read-Only check box does not have a tick in it.

As you say Please make sure that the Read-Only check box does not have a tick in it.
There is no tick in the box and still the same problem as to my last post.

Hmm, if this isn't an inappropriate question, may i ask if you own the computer? What I'm trying to get at, is, is there someone else who uses the computer who might have full Administrator rights who might be able to help at your end?

I had this same problem, so I proceded to check my properties for this folder and I saw that I did indeed have permissions to write to it. But then a memory from a long time ago clicked that this game was a bit finicky about its nesting place.

MAKE SURE that your folder for TTD is under the MPS folder and not deeply nested more than two levels. This sometimes causes havoc with TTD's ability to find your hard drive. It might be another limitation already discussed in another thread, but here I am referring to how it may cause problems with saving games.

Once I moved the folder up one level so that it was under the MPS, I could save perfectly. If the game cannot find a place to autosave this may also cause the game to crash on some systems, so it is in your best interest to be sure your folders are not deeply nested.

Best regards to all TTD players

Peace
