Disabling directx install

Post by Pacific »

Thank you for making this download available. I am able to use the DOS version of TTDeluxe , but cannot install TTD for windows. Whenever I try to run the setup.exe, it attempts to load an old version of directx, reports an error, and aborts. I currently have directx 8.0a on my computer, so I downloaded 8.1 and tried replacing the Dxsetup.exe in my TTD folder with the newer executable. No luck :( . I´m probably dense, but what am I missing?

I´ve been trying to find a copy of this game for years, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I forgot to mention:

I´m running Windows 98 on an Intel Pentium II 266 MHz processor.

You can´t run DX8.1 on Win98 anyway, it was made for Win 2000 and Win XP wasn´t it ?(

Correct me if i´m wrong !!!

Hi

Make sure all the files are in there own folders. The direct x has its own folder. If will not work if its not.

Try that. Any problems I´ll try and help

Worked like a charm. I hadn´t been extracting the zipped files out into their folders -- a little thing, but I never thought to check for it  . You are very perceptive. Thank you.

Ferret -- I suspect directx 8.1 was designed with XP in mind, but the MS site assures me I can use it with Win98 -- just not 95.

Thank you both for your help.
